Ya know, I just have to say this.... then I'll move on...

Post by GrizzlyEdd » Mon Sep 18, 2006 11:04 am

Being a native of Montana (born in Lewistown & raised in Stanford), I have to say this. Then those zealous Griz/Cat fans can have fun hacking me to pieces...

As I have said many times before, I am first above all a native Montanan, secondly a Griz fan, and thirdly a Cat fan. My feelings are this...

I would love to see the Cat/Griz game each year be the deciding factor in who wins the BSC. I would love to see a Cat/Griz NC game (regional seeding so it won't happen), I want the Cats to lose only one game a year (to the Griz of course). I would like to see the Cats win another NC (I would hollar as loud as any Cat fan). I do understand rivalries and feel that they are absolutely great in sports. I think that the "Brawl of the Wild" is, bar none, the best game in the Championship Division each and every year. and YES, some of my very best friends to this day are MSU grads and fanatical supporters of Cat sports.

What bites at my spirit and puts an ache in my heart is how we MSU/UM fans rip and tear at each other. It is almost like watching the parents of grade school and high school players curse, demean, and otherwise tear apart another team. The players a lot of the time are friends and even sometimes relatives and can't believe what they are seeing in the stands. Rooting on our team is absolutely necessary but to vugarly rip another team and especially their fans is nothing short of infantile behavior. I have been totally embarassed by some Griz fans at Cat/Griz games played in Missoula as well as being totally embarassed by some Cat fans at Cat/Griz games played in Bozeman. This has been the history since I attended my first Cat/Griz game in 1964. I can remember listening to the Cats winning the NC in 1984 (God I hope that was the year) and screaming until I couldn't scream anymore... then I just set down and cried. That was "State of MT football."

This may seem all mushy and gooey to some of you but I just had to get this off my chest! I am PROUD of my heritage & Montana teams and would do anything I could to get the Cats back on track. So, Cat fans take this as an apology from a avid Griz fan. Not all Griz fans are idiots and perverse as I know all Cat fans aren't. CatBob has all the respect in the world at egriz.com (and mine). He stands up for his team but doesn't get perverse and disrespect the Griz... a unique blend.

"OUT OF TRUE HUMILITY COMES A CHAMPION OF NOT ONLY A GAME BUT OF HEARTS." So, my Cat & Griz friends lets have at the best rivalry in the whole of this land but remember that everyone who climbs a mountain will at some time find themselves at the bottom of that mountain wondering WHAT THE EHLL HAPPENED!!!!

Live Long and Prosper my Cat friends....

SPOT ON! A little (or a lot of) smack between friendly, even bitter, rivals is part of the game. But, I'm quite embarrassed by Cats (and Griz) whose chiding and jeering goes beyond being competitors and is simply a reflection of their needing to get over themselves and grow up.

So, adding to GrizzlyEdd's mush and goo, here's to the rest of 2006 with the Cats 13-2 and the Griz 10-3!

Peace and long life ...

Good post Grizzly Ed. The rivalry is fun and shouldn't go over the edge I agree. You can still talk trash/football, but you should never go to the level of personal attacks etc. That is what makes the Cat/Griz rivalry SO GREAT! Thanks for the post!

Check out GrizzlyEdd's thread at eGriz.

It's pretty clear that GrizzlyEdd is a lone voice over their. And his point about "infantile behavior" has been validated no less than 25 times.

As much as it pains me to say it, class does not appear to be a characteristic of a vast majority of Griz fans (GrizzlyEdd clearly excepted).

Signed,
Another A**hole Cat fan

As I said in another thread, I have to thank GrizzlyEdd, Cat-Theotherwhitemeat and several other Griz fans who have posted on this board the last couple of weeks for some very classy posts and not "piling on" the Cats. I try to do the same in return when roles are reversed, though I may not always succeed. This post is another example, and I completely agree. While my "hatred" of the Griz can sometimes rise up, for the most part I am rooting for them to do well and have rooted for them in the playoffs in the past and will continue to assuming they aren't playing the Cats.

good posts all.... you're all better people than me. While I won't post messages kicking the Griz when they're down, you won't catch me cheering for them anytime soon. sorry, just can't do it. Hope that doesn't make me a bad person.

I also agree with the posts, but I'm in the same boat you are. I seldom visit egriz, and when I do I keep to myself for the most part- the few posts I have there don't spew garbage at the griz.

Like GrizzlyEdd, I'm a Montana native (4th generation on both sides), and I have numerous buds who are as adamant about the griz as I am about the 'Cats. I certainly have respect for their accomplishments and appreciate the acclaim they have brought to Montana, but they're going to have to do it without me ever cheering them on.

No way I could ever say 'Go Gr...........ii......... (hmph)...(hmph)......

Ok, I feel better now.

GrizzlyEdd was a little too mushy for my sensibilities but I hesitated posting for the last two weeks, because I am, being a Native Montanan, just too embarassed for the Cats to be my usual self.

I saw the slack-eyes, the 2000 mile stare in the Cat defense the second half and really felt for those guys - and that's a first-time-ever emotion for this die-hard Grizzfan.

I hope the heck Kramer and the staff can pull this team together because, friends, they are hurtin' big time.

Good luck Bobcats. Keep your heads high. This too shall pass.

Tom

I come from a family of Griz fans, and love to see the Griz beat the Cats as much as any other fan in Missoula. However, I chhered for the Cats in 2002 when a Cat playoff win would have meant a rematch of Cat/Griz in Missoula (can you imagine that, a rematch the year the streak was broken?). If the Cats ever make the title game, and don't play the Griz, I will cheer for them to represent Montana and western I-AA football. I hope that Cats turn this season around, and can live up to expectations.

hahahaha... how did I know I was gettin' too mushy, touchy-feely, and overall gooey for someone (wow and it was a fellow Griz fan...hehehe) . But, it did bring out some very good points and conversation here and on egriz... I am not saying that we should all get in a big circle and sing "We Are Family," I just wanted to bring to the attention of all State of Montana (MSU & UM) that we are spending more time being inhumane (personal attacks) to each other than actually being fans of our respective teams. Bring on the banter and the good natured rivalry (Best in the Nation by far). But, my friends.... are you all sure you really want to HATE someone else...??? Very strong word. How about some Cat/Griz PRIDE!!!

Though a little off topic, it reminds me of our current race for US Senator. And, having said that, both sides (teams) think the other is the most nasty and inhumane. Unfortunately, it is the state of our uncivility all around these days.

Come on Cats, whip up on those Eagles on Saturday!!

Maybe you should tell some of your friends over here that eh? I dont go personal, I stick to football and basketball but obviously that is too hard to swallow for some Cat fans....
