So for those than can recall, were our uni's in the 70's true gold with light blue? Or were we using the 'yellow gold' look? Lets be honest, the yellow gold/ light blue will look stupid with our new style helmets. For some reason I seem to think we were using just a solid gold colored helmet in the late 70's, so it might not look half bad.

According to the Helmet Project, you are right. Our Helmet for 76:GavinDonos wrote:So for those than can recall, were our uni's in the 70's true gold with light blue? Looks like 82 was when we began using the "yellow gold" color. http://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/bigsky.htm

ISU should go back to solid black. That is actually a pretty cool link--thanks.kmax wrote:According to the Helmet Project, you are right. yes we are going with the all gold helmets...spoke with Eric Fisher the kicker about it. I hope my alma mater does not go throwback because that red with plain white numbering is boring.LTown Cat wrote:kmax wrote:According to the Helmet Project, you are right. I think ISU has an identity crisis...wow they go through helmets like Jerry Tarkanian goes through towels.
Great link...I love historical stuff like that!!!

I just joined on here at the nation, but have been a long time reader. Anyway, I know the new equipment manager and have talked to him about these throwbacks. They are similar to the UCLA blue with light gold pants. Apparently they look pretty good. They are definitely just stripping the current helmets clean and using solid gold. I've seen a picture and they don't look terrible.

Finally a great idea out of the Athletic Department! Now if they really wanted to cash in on the idea they should sell them out of the Book Store.TomCat wrote:This is true (I have a brother-in-law who works for Universal). I understand that the uniforms will be auctioned off at some point. The team will use our current helmets.

UPDATE: The throwbacks are in the booster office and available for purchase. If I understand correctly there are only two runs of them available. You can purchase one today for $100 or you can wait and get a gameworn jersey for $200. I believe the $100 jerseys have normal sleeves and the game worns will have the cuffed sleeves like all game jerseys.

I think the idea of going with throwbacks is a great idea. I also think the idea of selling replica's of them for the athletic department is a great idea. I do however have a hard time with any entity getting money (even if it is the boosters which I truly support) off of the "backs" of college athletes. Yes they are getting full scholarships, and yes they are getting a great education, but they never get a chance to see any of the money made off of their game worn jersey directly.rtb wrote:UPDATE: The throwbacks are in the booster office and available for purchase.
