Injury Prevention

Post by gtapp » Fri Aug 11, 2006 4:33 am

For any physical therapy experts:

Have there been any developments in the prevention of major sports injuries, particularly knee injuries? It seems as the athelets get bigger and faster that more of them are getting injured. How many knee injuries (ACL, MCL, PCL) did we (MSU) have in the spring of 2005? It was five or six if I remember. The MN Vikings are already down one starter for the year (knee) and if they hit their average at least two more will go down for the season. I know the surgeries are getting better and the pre and post op strategies are better understood but how about a little prevention?

I have not heard of any implemented measures in this area. I agree, it is a concern, it must be managed better.

I believe that the only mesure we are using is prayer?

Are those "new" helmets designed to minimize concussions working?
