I hear from a couple of sources that none of the Durham's assistants -Brown, Carson, or Clark- will be retained by Huse.

I agree. Always a good decision!

Say it's not so about Carson!

Carson is a quality man and has stayed in contact with new recruits and their parents with several phone calls a week since Coach Durham resigned. He kept them all informed as to what was going on at MSU during the hiring process, and remained very positive and upbeat even when he wasn't chosen to be a finalist.

He is a great guy, a great recruiter, and a great communicator. He knows the academic side in side and out and I think should be retained! He definitely brings a sense of security to the new recruits coming.

I heard from an extremely reliable source that they all, were in fact, fired. This was known to the team the day that they had the meeting with Coach Huse.

As far as Scott Carson goes, that's too bad. He was a quality basketball person and he'll find something somewhere else. I think James Clark would fit in an advisory position in the athletic department for African-American student athletes. I'm not sad to see Johnny Brown go. As I said before, it was Brad Huse's choice and he should bring in the assistants that he wants for his program.

It does not really shock me that Coach Huse wanted to bring in his assistants however I still feel like we could lose a player or two because he did not retain Johnny Brown. I see people get on here and post for their favorite guy but from sources close to the program and even some of the players themselves Coach Brown was the guy most liked by the current players and signees. It is in fact he that stayed in contact with the new recruits and Coach Carson like what is being said by others on this board. I have spoken with some of our current players and he is the only one that they wanted to see Coach Huse keep on his staff. I have heard that Coach Brown has some very intriguing possible job opportunites where he might can better himself. I wish him well and appreciate his two quality years of service to the Bobcat program. I really enjoyed his pre-game scouting reports in the booster room!

i can see some of the players liking johnny. but is it because he is a good coach, and will help this team go farther? or is it because he is a coach who'll pick you up on the way to the bars, and drink with you and try to pick up girls? i'm not saying what he was doing is wrong. he is a grown man, and single, and more power to him. from what i have heard, no one is going anywhere. but who would a kid like more? a guy like carson who is closer in age to durham, has a wife and kids, and seperates work from play? or, a players coach who can relate to the guys because he is younger, and he still does the same crap that the players do? so i agree players liked him, i disagree that anyone was so close to that they'd leave the program. at least none of the guys i know. guess we'll have to wait and see though.

From your description of Coach Brown, I think he was a real liability to the program. Coach Brown should be acting like a coach, not a player!

I feel for anyone that loses a job. I've been there it is not a lot of fun but, they do collect a paycheck until June 30th so they have time to seek things and other places out.

I totally support Coach Huse's decision it is important for him to put his stamp on this program and it starts by creating a staff that is his guys. I personnally do not know any of the former assistants and think it is tasteless to bash them now.

Let's wish them well and get behind our new coach and his new staff.

ok, if the tasteless comment was at me, then you are way off. i even said that him hanging in the bars and picking up women is not a problem as far as i'm concerned. but it may explain why some players liked him. he was a buddy, and maybe not a very good teacher.

I have on very good authority that the day Durham resigned, Johnny Brown was nowhere to be found. That he quit coming into the offices at all. It is Carson that stayed the course. It is Huse's decision to do what he likes, he is the coach now. We hired him to do the job, so let him do it his way!

I agree. It is now Huse's job and his success relies on the quality of assistants he brings in for coaching and recruiting. The fans will judge Huse on how well he does as coach so I think he should have the right to pick the staff that he thinks gives the team the best chance to win and win right away. I think he will pick some very good people and some that will hopefully compliment his coaching style and philosophies.

I disagree completely. Huse shouldn't feel any sort of obligation to retain anyone on staff, even if it were Mike Krystkowski. This is his ship to run now, he needs to get his own guys in here. We didn't hire Brad to carry over the way things were being done, we hired him to come in and shake things up. Show some respect for Brad's ability to make a tough decision, and have some faith in him that he will make the right decision in choosing his assistants.

BTW, I have nothing but good things to say about Coach Carson, so this is not a personal thing. He is a good coach and a great guy, so he will undoubtedly land on somewhere else - hopefully this will end up being a positive situation for him, too!

I talked to someone at the fieldhouse late today and he told me that he looked out his window and saw Danny Sprinkle, new Bobcat assistant coach, walking into the fieldhouse on his way to work.
