NEW DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR

Post by CATSJUNKIE » Wed Feb 04, 2026 10:39 am

I have heard statements from confirmed sources that D-Co Shawn Howe is taking an NFL position. Who do we hire or promote to fill his shoes?

It’s true, bummer, but good for Howe. I would think Jody Owens would be a good fit.

There isn’t really a spot, but Clay Bignell, who is at New Mexico, would be fun to have back

Maybe Daly regrets UTEP and wants back ha

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Trenton Green? Not sure how that would work with CB/S covered but just throwing out ideas

Howe is a great dude! Sorry to see him go.

Jody kind of seems like the logical choice. I don't know a lot about Shep, but he's been here quite a while and seems to be doing a great job.

Freddie Banks is the DB coach at Wake Forrest....not sure if he'd want to move back into a coordinator role.

Vigen likes promoting from within if he can, and he's got a very obvious candidate on staff already in Jody Owens who has already been a DC before at multiple schools. IF Howe is leaving then I have a hard time seeing any other replacement.

Not at all, just one post here from someone with less than 10 total posts on the board.

Number of posts I've made doesn't dictate my worthiness. Have a brother on the team that is a starter.

I never said it did dictate your worthiness, just a factual statement.

Jody Owens is the clear top candidate. He is more than ready. Congrats to Howe, can't get mad at him for jumping up to the NFL. Definitely an upgrade in pay and experience! Do we know what position coach or assistant he will be with the Steelers?

Owens is the clear choice. Legacy is important and not overlooked here.

Kane Ioane? Joey Thomas?

Those are my three wishlist fellas.
