Favorite Freshman

Who is your favorite freshman that you are looking forward to seeing more of next year?

I have to go with Rocky. He was great with limited usage in year 1 and should be a monster next year. You could also see him having a blast on the field all the time. Always celebrating and hyping other players and the crowd up.

Dane is a close second. I loved how he would fight for extra yards after contact on every catch. The "Man of Steel" is going to be our next star receiver.

Jabez is also going to be a stud! Our receiving room is stacked with young talent.

I mean, I could have talked about all of them but I was just trying to get us started talking about my two favorites. Jabez looks like he'll be a real weapon on KOs going forward and he's not afraid to run it out of the end zone.

The player I'm most excited to see how he develops is Luvens Valcin. Dude is just built differently. Even though they are both TEs he appears to have a pretty different skill set than Rocky. I really missed having that TE/FB hybrid guy, like Rohan and Snell, and I think Valcin will be an absolute beast in that roll.

I’d have to give a shout out to Frokjer and Johnson for the winning XP. Two true freshmen.

I was going to say the same thing, the MSU kicking game was very shaky early on but they improved throughout the year and were automatic through the playoffs. Great job!

I'll throw out Seth Brock on the d-line, he looked really good when he got a chance to play.

I'm going with Carter Curnow (TE, #85) for sentimental reasons. My son-in-law in Dillon coached him to back-to-back class A hoops titles. Carter had shoulder surgery after the 2025 hoops season but wound up on some special teams down the stretch.

Zimmer for me is #1. If he puts on even more weight, watch out!

Dane Steel an obvious #2. Man is already legendary.

Ahrens at LB and Brock at Edge are both not talked about enough. They both have massive futures.

Started on ST in the title game!

I think Boyd is poised to have a stellar year next year. I truly think he's a good as the 3 leaving, he just had injuries that kept him behind the others. A healthy off season and yall got another stud on the back end.

Brendan Ross continues to do well on special teams and sees some time at nickel

Yeah this another good one... he's one to watch next year. If he doesn't play much he might be gone. There's a log jam at safety and fire whatever reason they didn't rotate gray as much like they did the other positions. They might need to find a way to get him on the fiend or rather he really needs to compete this of season so he can get on the field.

I'm excited to see what Boyd can do.

Also, just curious... do you happen to know anything on incoming Freshman Kayden Steptoe, or if you've seen him play at all in HS? I think he's coming in from Texas. He looked like a big get for MSU. Had offers from Washington and Bowling Green if I remember right. I wonder if he could see playing time right away.

He is one of the two freshman I thought might see actual time in the secondary

I’m so curious to see where Dethman ends up. They’ve got a few options with him depending on size and weight gain.

I've heard he may be a future SS/Nickel option instead of LB. I view him more as a Sam anyway so that makes sense. With another year of physical development, Mason is well on his way to being a contributor on defense to potentially starting his junior/senior year.

I could sure see that. His fire on special teams has been excellent this year.
