How the Hell?
Just curious as how the hell do we have 7 false starts at home yesterday! Blows my mind…I think the last few home games we have had at least two every game. Uncalled for and needs addressed.

Ya they got called for it a few times but I’m sure it was happening all night and they just only got caught a couple times…really hard to hear/catch it from happening

I’m no wizard here but isn’t there a different way to make that not happen and why all the sudden is this an issue. Because if it’s that easy why don’t all teams do it. Lack of focus by our O line maybe. Call me stupid but having an hard time understanding how that happens.

Most teams have more class than that. It’s a lowly attempt to get penalties. You can see teams like the Gris doing itBFcatfan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:23 pmI’m no wizard here but isn’t there a different way to make that not happen and why all the sudden is this an issue. Re: How the Hell?
I imagine it's pretty hard to avoid if you're an O lineman, and you're trying to listen for the QB to yell "set, hut. Hut" and one of the D linemen yells HUT. It's probably easy to mistake that for a real signal, and false start.BFcatfan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:23 pmI’m no wizard here but isn’t there a different way to make that not happen and why all the sudden is this an issue. Or they clap. Just odd refs can't hear that when Cats on O and stadium is quiet.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:50 pmI imagine it's pretty hard to avoid if you're an O lineman, and you're trying to listen for the QB to yell "set, hut. Re: How the Hell?
We were talking about this last night and today. Does anybody know what the actual rule about this is? I'm too lazy to look it up, lol. Is it really a rule that no defenders can say the work "Hut"? What about "Butt"? Sor of joking there but how does the rule read? Also, they are not allowed to clap? I guess what I'm getting at, is the defense is also communicating with play calls, yelling plays, hand signals, etc. Just wondering how that rule actually works.tetoncat wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:56 pmOr they clap. Re: How the Hell?
Not sure how rule reads. Essentially can't simulate snap. So I think of QB is clapping they can't I'd saying hut, mimicking that isn't allowed.catatac wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 8:34 pmWe were talking about this last night and today. Re: How the Hell?
A defender may not use words, sounds, or signals that simulate the offensive snap or quarterback cadence while lined up near the line of scrimmage and facing the offense.
The intent of the rule is to prevent:
• Inducing a false start
• Creating unfair confusion
• Gaining an advantage by deception rather than reaction
What Is Illegal
Defenders cannot:
• Yell “HUT,” “HIKE,” “SET,” “GO,” or similar cadence words
• Clap, stomp, or make sudden sounds that imitate the snap
• Use hand signals or head bobs that resemble the center’s snap motion
• Coordinate vocal cues timed to the offense’s cadence
Even one player doing this can draw the foul

Re: How the Hell?
I would think you could have few key words that could be used like the infamous “Omaha” or “Pandas” then it’s on the number of huts. As a line man you don’t clue in until you hear the code word, and drop several of them every snap and change from snap to snap. Like I said I’m no wizard but 7 false starts at home can be critical on a game like we got coming up.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sat Dec 13, 2025 5:50 pmI imagine it's pretty hard to avoid if you're an O lineman, and you're trying to listen for the QB to yell "set, hut. Re: How the Hell?
The offense needs to come up with some kind of adjustment - leg stomp, silent count, key word or something. We know the refs aren’t going to call it every time.BFcatfan wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 9:10 amI would think you could have few key words that could be used like the infamous “Omaha” or “Pandas” then it’s on the number of huts. Re: How the Hell?
This definitely needs attention, no matter what the cause. You can't get a five yard penalty when you are on the one yard line. Also, we had a packed stadium screaming yet I don't recall SFA ever having any trouble. No false starts. I guess we need to scream louder.
I also recall some stupid penalties, like once our DB grabbing a face mask, another one was holding well away from where the runner was.
These mistakes can cost you a ball game in a close game. We gotta bring our A game Saturday and that goes for the fans as well. Grab up every ticket and then yell your head off.

There were multiple false starts. Just somehow none of them called.aucat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 11:02 amThis definitely needs attention, no matter what the cause. Re: How the Hell?
I thought it was bush league and a reflection of their program, but everyone else here wanted to give SFA kudos for being classy and such so I dropped it.
If it’s being coached, that’s BS to me. If it isn’t, after the first penalty yesterday their coach should tell the defense to stop that goofy nonsense ASAP because it’s against the rules and it makes your team look like cheaters.
Either way I don’t respect their head coach for condoning it, which it’s clear he does and makes his team look weak IMO.

I feel like the last few quarterfinal games we have hosted the opponents have either been really tacky, and or the fans think they are the best team on the planet.PapaG wrote: ↑Sun Dec 14, 2025 11:06 amI thought it was bush league and a reflection of their program, but everyone else here wanted to give SFA kudos for being classy and such so I dropped it.
