A quick look at our potential opponents and their quarterbacks in our first two playoff games:
First Playoff Game:
Yale: QB is Dante Reno (love that name). 6'2, 205. Had 273 yards passing with 3 TD's against Harvard in last game of the season. -6 yards and 0 TDs. 2,040 yards, 17 TDs, 6 INT's for the season passing. Doesn't run. 40 yards total rushing for the year.
Youngstown State: QB is Beau Brungard. 6', 215. Had 226 yards passing, 2 TDs, 143 rushing and 3 TDs vs. N. Iowa in their last game. 2,913 yards, 23 TDs, 3 INT's passing, 1,378 Yds, 24 TDs rushing on the year.
Second Playoff Game Potentials:
Lamar: QB is Aiden McCown. 6'2", 199. Had 135 yards passing, 1 TD in loss to McNeese State. 1,170 yards, 8 TDs, 6 INTs passing on the season. 178 yards rushing, 3 TDs on the season.

i am conflicted about SFA.
i want them to play um so they can beat the gris with Vidlak getting the last laugh.
or pay back SFA for cancelling the home and home.

Beau Brungard's numbers are ridiculous for a guy I've never heard of.
Youngstown's D is #56 in the FCS according to Massey. Every team in the Big Sky except PSU and CP have a higher rated D. I want Yale to win just to see what kind of old money fanbase shows up.

Youngstown's QB could cause real problems for us. I am not worried about great running QBs or great passing QBs but a true dual threat who can escape the rush could cause us problems-- we saw this vs. Davis.

I was at NDSU for the Youngstown st game. Ndsu didn’t come prepared to play and honestly should have lost. Youngstown st is absolutely not a gimmie game. They are going to score on our d. They have 2 wr that are legit, one reminds me of the Griz kid. They are going to watch that game and use their wr in the same way.

Vidlak playing the gris would mean the Cats lost to SFA.

Following the Fans Nation or Hack City podcasts, you'd have heard Brungard's name come up early every week with his ridiculous numbers. YSU was the one draw I didn't necessarily want to see because of how explosive they are on offense, and will give any defense fits. The good news is the guys on fans nation seemed to think our defense is pretty well equipped to handle their attack, so that's a bit of comfort coming from guys that know the Valley as well as they do. Going to be a difficult first game.

Brungard handled the ball 593 times out of 804 plays. 225 carries (just under 19 times a game). 368 pass attempts.
YSU’s lowest scoring game was at UND (17), next was 24 vs Michigan St and Mercyhurst.

Brungard is gonna be a handful. Their D doesn't look nearly as good.

The more I read about Beau, the more I got nervous of our matchup...

Their D allows 30 ppg and 4.3 yards per rush. So itll probably be a shootout.

Just saying that YSU beat NIU and Towson by 3. They only beat Mercyhurst by 9.

MSU vs Youngstown has a 55-28 final score in favor of the Bobcats written all over it. This Brungard guy makes Tommy Mellott look like he was a minor piece of the MSU offense last year by comparison.

I’m sorry, I had to laugh when I read “Doesn’t run.” I think if I saw Paul Brott and Kenny Eiden IV headed my way, I’d give some very serious thought to running.

Youngstown State (rank in MVFC/rank if in BSC)
Points Scored - 36.4 (3/3)
Pts Allowed - 30.0 (8/8)
Total O - 457.0 (2/3)
Total D - 388.2 (6/4)
Total O YPP - 6.8 (2/2)
Total D YPP - 6.2 (8/8)
Rush O - 205.8 (3/3)
Rush D - 136.8 (4/2)
Rush O YPA - 5.8 (2/1 tie)
Rush D YPA - 4.3 (5/4)
Pass O - 251.2 (1/6)
Pass D - 251.4 (10/11)
Pass Eff. O - 155.1 (2/4)
Pass Eff. D - 147.3 (7/12)
Everything stacks up pretty evenly with the BSC until you get to passing. Very good all-around on offense. Defense average overall (good vs run; bad vs pass).

Ya, I threw that editorial comment in there, but then when looking at Vidlak's stats showing negative yards, I realized it is likely Reno has been sacked several times to affect his numbers. Still, no rushing TDs says something about what he brings to the field as far as an offensive threat is concerned.

or they were on the other side of the bracket.
