Unless I missed something, I'm surprised there's not more chatter about the Cats returners.
Woods is turning into dynamic kick returner and Sat we broke out the dual punt returners with Dane Steele back alongside Taco.
With teams avoiding Taco on punts, now we have another weapon on the other side of the field and it looks like the Cats could use some reverses on punt returns as well. Weber even kicked at least one short out of bounds to avoid both of them.

The two punt returns was an interesting twist. Of course that might have helped Weber out with that fake punt having one less person up front.

I was about to say this....having two back there is dangerous because you are light up front to stop a fake. There was a big time coach down here that when at coaching clinics would swear that if you put two returners back he's running a fake every time because you don't have the numbers to stop it. I find it to be a dangerous thing especially with the way the griz's coach coaches. I would be solid and supremely fundamental in all things kicking game this week.
Woods has been a great surprise in the return game. I kind of thought it would be white that was the game breaker at the KOR position but I'm glad to see woods stepping up they way that he has, we'll need that threat from the KOR. Hopefully we only have one KOR all game, lol

Maybe it was just a Weber thing because of long-snapping.

Possibly so.... what they could do if that what they want to do is line dane up on the gunner and last second he drops back to his half while the guy over the center(a speed guy like Williams, Boyd, etc) drips to the misfire center to pick up the loose gunner late down the field.... kind of a trick way to get that extra pr back there without giving it away early. I've also did a layered look at pr have one short and one deep.. this way the short guy can still play up to help/discourage the fake but can also have enough range to possibly field a punt..... can also run done pretty neat punt blocks to screw up blocking out of that look also.

Having two back was probably just a Weber thing. Pretty sure their punter hasn’t been great and has been putting the ball all over the place.. Short, long, left, right, over his head etc. Putting two back there allowed for a chance at some returns. I think we had 3? pretty good ones last game so it must have worked. Obviously they snuck the fake in there, however we were close and should have probably stopped that. I’ll be interested to see if we do it again as I really think it was situational after watching a few Weber games and seeing how their punts have gone. Not a great strategy against stronger units.

Just one more thing teams have to spend time on prepping for MSU. They also need to prep for pass back to quarterbacks, fake FG by Frokjer.

Vigen said in Monday interview it was something ST coach came up with because punter sprayed kicks all over the place

The Bobcats wanted to line one punt receiver up behind the Weber punter in the end zone to receive the hike, but knowing they would be called offsides so they lined up two to receive the punt just to get in their head.
