GBU vs UNC

It’s Monday and still no good, bad, ugly?
Good: lotsa stuff
-Seth Johnson solo 3 and out. He broke up pass with big hit on Cheeks, who had to leave the game. Then pbu, then open field tackle.
-cornerbacks had one of the best days I’ve ever seen. The DBs remind me of the 49ers in 1981(?).
-held Cheeks to 6 catches, 27 yards.
-held Gibson to 19-33-1, 93 yards O tds
-Lamson had his best, most consistent, all-around game. The worst thing he did was have a little wobble in his two long passes to King
-Marsh’s TD. Like a lot of others it was one of the coolest plays I’ve seen by MSU.
-Taco. He kinda got overshadowed by Marsh TD and Lamson and defense.
-King and Long being more involved pass catching. If MSU is going to get 4-118 it’s a big problem for opponents.
- the weather
- the turnout by MSU fans

Bad
-field position early. Great job by UNC punter
-run game early. I thought MSU would run wild.

Ugly
-track around football field.

I would put under Bad, Paul Brott going down. Though he was able to stand around and walk on the sideline he will have some residuals from that going forward.

Bad.
Lamson's deep balls need a little work.
Running game early on could've been better.

Good.
The defense was great all day!
The offense was great most of the day.
The special teams mistakes that showed up in every game for the first month seem to be resolved.

To add to what others have already said:

Good: The kicking game appears to be improving each week, that's two games in a row with 100% success rates on FGs and XPs.

Bad: The two consecutive field goals after having 1st and Goal.

Ugly: Nothing ugly about a 55-7 win!

Great:
* The entire team's reaction to Marsh's TD. Very cohesive team. Even Vigen post-game appeared to (as much as he could) let the celebration penalty slide.

Good:
* The DBs - speed plus attitude and hitting. Great to see.
* Pass protection - allowing Lamson to settle and see the field without scrambling and cutting off one side of the field.
* Use of the middle of the field in the passing game.
* Substitutions - use of so many personnel keeping us fresh and healthy.

Bad:
* Brott update?

Good: DEFENSE. Yes, its UNCU, but the D was suffocating.
-Lamson had a day
-THICK 6!!!

Bad: Lamson taking some shots. Love the kid's toughness, but sometimes i wanna see him slide

Ugly: UNCU RB dancing in the endzone down 55-6. Bad look dude.

Add the Bobcat fans reaction in the stands to it as well. I was at the game and everyone was going nuts. It's so weird watching replays on TV because I thought Marsh was absolutely flying down the sidelines watching it live and he looks slower on TV. I've noticed that a lot on plays over the years, one being Troy Andersen's fourth down stop against SDSU in the playoffs. Troy just flew in for that stop watching it live but it looks slower on TV.

Bad-
Inability to get out off goal on 2 straight possessions. Need at least a couple first downs to flip field.
Insistence on running Lamson inside 10 on first and goals when we have so many weapons.

It looked like Lamson was lucky that he slipped on his reception or he might have gotten leveled on that play too. Toughness is great until you get hurt.

I’d like to for them to throw Coon in with a lead blocker or even against Weber get Breslin in and see what he can do, he’s a big bruiser style back.

I am not sure this entirely true. Still seeing the high snaps...just able to get away with it the last few weeks.

I would like him to hit his check down more instead of taking off. RB is in flat a lot on those scambles.

Incredible: The DB's have really grown up! WOW! Great game. They always had speed but now they love to hit people!

The defense stood out to me the most, what a day they had and all over the field. Everyone was on point Saturday.
Not much Bad, I suppose the first half run game was bad, but they figured it out.
Ugly all those empty seats in the stands.

The two starting corners McMillan & Johnson are both playing incredibly well. McMillan seems like he's the best cover guy as opposing teams haven't really even been trying to throw to his side, so it can seem like the only time you notice him is when he makes plays against the run. This might be the first time in a while that MSU doesn't necessarily need to rely so much on its pass rush to be able to shut down the opponent's passing game.

And how about the other RB who kept celebrating after each run on that drive?? He even signaled for a 1st down twice when he was 3 yards short. I get being excited about a good run. But down 55-0, it was pretty embarrassing to be celebrating 6 yard runs!

Great: ANOTHER dominating win where the Cats basically didn't give up any points, until garbage time, against a supposedly improving, tough playing team, IN THEIR HOUSE.

Good: DL Showing crazy athleticism and speed and not getting caught during an 89 yard return.

Bad: UNC fan turnout for the game against one of the best teams in the country. We are blessed in Bozeman.

Ugly: Tom's prediction that Weber has a good defense. lol

First time at a game at UNC. Field was actually very nice, just small. Beer available for sale although the choices were Coors Lite, Michelob Ultra or some weird orange creamsicle abomination. Would have liked a basic IPA or lager instead but that's quibbling. Lots of Bobcats, maybe more than the home fans.

Good: 55-7 road conference game.

Bad: Getting stuffed on 4th and 1 by a so-so team. We have to fix that.

Ugly: Brott's injury. Hope he is OK.

Let’s hope you’re wrong! At least we haven’t had a punt blocked since September…

Caden Dowler running with one of the subdivision's best wide receivers and getting his head around to find the ball and break it up.

There aren't many corners, let alone safeties, who can do that at this level. It's even rarer to find a guy who can do that while also being 205# and a really strong tackler in the running game.
