Eweu was flying high till they hired Best. They entered a downward spiral right then. I've been surprised that he wasn't canned for several years now. I think this is actually what the administration wants. They don't view the team as the front porch.

I was not expecting what we saw today. Wow!

On two fronts we saw the get-right game I thought our boys needed and a display of just how far ewooo has fallen.

I’ll take it. On both accounts.

I was surprised how bad EWU looked, they only lost by 3 at Northern Iowa and by 10 at Incarnate Word. Whoever their OC is makes Pete Sterbick look like Andy Reid, so many hopeless QB runs on 3rd and long.

I understand the sentiment, but i honestly feel a bit bad for the EWU players that their coaches brought them into Bobcat Stadium with that game plan.

As a Cat you never feel bad for whooping eastern! You should be ashamed of yourself for posting such.

Agree with beating Eastern, no question it feels good to get a dominant win. But the players do put in a lot of work, and their coaches gave them no chance to even be competitive.

I knew before I opened this thread that it would start out with some high fives, then slowly begin to devolve into a how bad EWU is  I thought EWU did a pretty good job offensively, relatively speaking. Statistically, they were screwed by that -24 bad snap. Take that out and they're about the same as every FCS team MSU has played:

SDSU - 65 plays, 297 yards (4.6)
USD - 52-209 (4.0)
MH - 59-263 (4.5)
EWU - 64-255 (4.0)
(All without starting LB Daily and starting safety Uluilakepa; C. Dowler was out for most of yesterday's game)

MSU is incredibly consistent on defense so far, regardless of opponent. The style of defense they use is supposed to look like the above stats if it has the players and they're disciplined. Some defenses are high risk and get a lot of big plays and sacks, especially against lower-level teams, but it turns out to be fool's gold when they run into a team with the same or better physicality. MSU stuffs the run and gets pressure with four rushers. When it doesn't, the coverage is good enough to keep teams from getting into any kind of run.

Defensively, EWU isn't good but was victimized by its punter giving MSU good field position. Were it not for one of the best passes I've seen covering MSU at the end of the first half, EWU might've only been down 24-0 and would've pitched a shutout in the second quarter. Again, not saying EWU is a good defense but it had a lot working against it. The fake FG, their punter, MSU's pass game.

If their punter was good, MSU might have scored less, but would’ve had a lot more yards. Talent difference was notable.

 I loved it when Vigen said that we still have things to work on defensively. \:D/  =P~

Our second defense would still be the best defense in the BSC.

if you take out the bad snap, how about the last two drives against 2's and 3's.

We’ve had more talent, better coaching, better schemes, than everyone we’ve played and everyone we’re going to play except Oregon.

They wouldn't. If they were all 2s at every level they are super young. Talented but lack of experience would catch up.

Schemes were not good vs Mercyhurst. Not necessarily more talent than SDSU
