NFL Combine invites

Don't see anyone from MSU, maybe that wasn't expected, although I thought Hall was?

Is the focus on the pro day? Sure seems like Tommy is training hard. Haven't heard anything about Grebe, but he mentioned going to the league was his goal. Anyone know about him? Or others?

Pretty surprised Marcus didn't get an invite. He had a really good week at the shrine bowl.

I saw Grebe was training with a long snapping coach (from Twitter) to add another skill to become more draftable/playable in the NFL.

Great if he can make that transition but he is overqualified from an athletic perspective from that role.

Maybe being an "emergency long snapper" helps him get a roster spot when added to his defensive abilities.

Biggest snub in the country imo. But he'll dominate his pro day which will get plenty of eyes because teams will be interested in Tommy and Brody as well.

I was really surprised to not see Wehr on there too. Guessing kickers/punters weren't listed since I didn't see Hall but I'm pretty sure he posted an invite. Pro Day will be interesting for sure.

It's actually kinda a blessing not to go. The combine isn't really about showing what you can do but more a place where they see what you can't do. If you have a great day, a la worthy, it helps but your pro day is honestly more important. Most guys don't improve by going to the combine. Also at your pro day you usually get the teams that are ACTUALLY interested in seeing you. Those teams are more likely to see what you can add opposed to trying to tear you a part. With that said I figured wehr would have got an invite because teams would be interested in seeing him. His agent may have decided its better to not go so they didn't lobby for it.

Lol come on.

Nobody is turning down or avoiding a combine invite. The earliest anybody usually gets drafted out of the non-invites is round 4.

It’s really this simple. If you’re a top draft prospect, you’re going to the combine.

I don’t think you were here back then, but Troy Andersen went from an excellent FCS player who was probably a 3rd day pick to a 2nd-round pick after he was one of the most-talked about players at the 2022 Combine. For lower-division players, a combine invitation is a true prize if the player tests well.

You are very wrong. Plenty of guys don't go to the combine because they know it'll hurt their stock in many cases. Been around this for a really long time. Jalyx hunt from hcu 3rd round didn't go to the combine last year. Qbs routinely won't throw at the combine because they want to throw to wrs they know and will make them look good. And I can name plenty of others. It can be a blessing and a curse.

Been around the college to nfl scene for almost 30yrs. Yes it's a blessing and a curse. If you test really really well yes it can help you. And if you go there and have even the slightest hiccup as a fringe player you kill your chances in one fatal swoop. My point is that him not getting an invite can be blessing. There's plenty of guys that get invited but don't do anything at the combine and tell teams to come to their pro day at their school. Qbs do it all the time. Because they want to throw to wrs that the know and will make them look good. Many speed guys won't run at the combine because of the lasers, they run at their pro day because it's hand timed and they run a surface they know. Obviously it isn't all players but plenty do. Again my point is that not getting an invite can be a huge plus because he works out in bozeman in familiar territory with familiar faces he's going against... he can really shine.

In Wehr's case I'm not sure if missing out on the Combine is a huge deal. All the teams got to see him at the Shrine Bowl and by all reports he was one of the best OL there. It seems like the Combine would be more important anyway for skill position guys who want to stand out with a fast 40-time or high vertical. Are OL really drafted for their workout stats or do the teams care more about their practice/game film and how they actually play against real opponents? I don't recall ever hearing about a guard who rocketed up the draft board based on his 40-time like Troy did in 2022.

Who is turning down an invite to the combine? And there’s a difference between going and not participating in drills and not attending.

Does anyone know if they do a short shuttle drill at the MSU pro day? NFL scouts are getting more and more into the short shuttle for predicting future NFL offensive line success. This was a tweet and it's a few years old now but it's continued to bear fruit from what I've seen in the past couple of years.
Since 2010, just 28 Offensive Linemen recorded a 4.47 short shuttle or better at the NFL Combine

24 were drafted

Those 24 went on to start 84% of their NFL games. It's a cheat code.
If Marcus is able to short shuttle in 4.47 seconds or better, it would probably significantly increase his draft stock. Also, teams are typically very interested in 10 yd splits of the 40 yard dash when it comes to lineman.
