Current true freshmen

Our two deep roster (3-4 deep in spots) has done an amazing job. With playoffs not counting towards the 4 games youngsters can play, how many true freshmen will get to see the field? I could see some from the RB room and maybe some from the DL room at any point. If it’s a blowout though, will more play? Or are they even allowed to dress?

Isn't the # that can dress similar to a road game, so fewer opportunities than a typical home game.

I seem to remember that also is set at the travel limit. The doc I found was old but was set at 58 for Big Sky and FCS Playoffs. I recall that the other players can't be on the field and were in the stands at last year's playoff games.

I think the UC Davis coach said on his presser this week that it was 64

In my opinion, the one great aspect about being in the playoffs year in and year out is the extra practice/playing time our athletes receive. While other teams cleaned out their locker rooms a couple weeks ago, our guys are still getting time in with the coaches, the trainers, access to the training facilities and nutrition programs. It truly is like having an extra winter camp. If you're a younger guy or a backup looking to progress, this extra time pays HUGE dividends.
I always felt like that was one of the reasons the dark pinkies had an advantage on us for some many years was because of their consistent appearances in the postseason. We have definitely caught up in that aspect, and to some extent, have pulled out in front a little bit.

No question.
Can't remember if it was Colter or someone else but I remember someone talking about that very thing with NDSU. Was said that during their run they had something like 3 extra seasons just practicing and playing in the post season.

I have every bit of faith in these numbers. I want to point out that I counted 74 guys participating in team warm ups for the gris at the Cat/gris game. No idea if 74 dressed guys came out of the tunnel to start but I too was thinking 58 when I counted the 74.

That would surprise me unless we have a lot of injuries. If a guy played 0 of 4 allowable reg season games...I wouldn't expect them to play in playoffs.

The older sheet I read said that the max number didn't apply when driving vs flying.

A lot of the young guys were in street clothes for the cat-gris game. I think the list of freshmen is pretty accurate, I think another to add to that list is aiden Kaplan, if I'm not mistaken he's been traveling since game one and I think he's played a little(still redshirting though). I know mcmillan is starting on several special teams and is the #4 behind powdrell, johnson, and Woodard now that we're in the playoffs. If in not mistaken steel also is starting on some special teams as well. Hoping we have the game in hand early and early in the 4th we can rotate in the young ones just to get a sneak peak of what's to come.

For the playoffs, until the championship game, it is 64, regardless of driving or flying.

I’d add Carson Williams. He’s flashed on kick coverage.

My sources say he was in street clothes for the cat gris game. From what I'm told he isn't one that will be playing much if at all in the playoffs. Hasn't played or traveled the last 3 games don't see him playing much now. I could be wrong though.

Due to grey shirting for the last 43 years, I'm still a true frosh and didn't play in any games this year, so I'm good to go for the playoffs.

Good to know.
It was a month ago but congrats on passing 20K posts. To be that prolific but also informative poster is great.

You’d pull a hammy lacing up your cleats.

Rocky (#89) was in at TE along with Lonergan and Schlepp on the 4th Jones TD. First I've seen him play but with Jones and Provience down right now, appears he is the 3rd TE. Looks the part!

I thought I saw Provience in civies on the sideline during the TV broadcast. I didn’t know he was hurt.
