Watching the game in Cheney yesterday from the stands, the crowd was rarely (dare I say never) a factor for either team in terms of noise and excitement. You could have heard a conversation between people 3 rows away through most of the game. Having never been to EWU to watch a game, our group commented several times what a difference it was from our Bobcats home atmosphere, we are seriously spoiled!

I don’t know what the game looked like on TV, but sitting next to the turf and watching the game it was noticeable that the defense had what we thought was an uncharacteristic lack of “juice” yesterday, there wasn’t much talking, whooping up the energy to each other or the crowd, or noticeable bench excitement. It was very different than how the team is at home on the sideline. We came to the conclusion that it had to be the lack of crowd noise and energy pouring onto them to hype them up, or was it coming off a bye week? The cold, crappy weather? Maybe some of all of those?

I put most of the "lack of energy" blame on the bye week. I know most people love bye weeks because it gives players a chance to recover from injuries, but I view it as nothing more than a momentum killer. Especially when a team is really finding it's groove, which is exactly the position the Cats were in before the bye.

Yes, we were getting banged up, but both sides of the ball were executing almost flawlessly before the bye. The two games prior to the bye against Idaho & PSU were among some of the best football I have seen the Cats play in terms of execution in all three phases of the game. Hard to take a week off from playing competition, especially against a top 10 like Idaho, and expect to come out like you haven't missed a beat.

It wasn't always pretty out there but credit to the MSU coaches for making adjustments in game and shutting EWU down in the fourth quarter when it really mattered.

I didn’t think they lacked energy. They were probably unsure about how to lineup and get into position. If you rewatch pay attention to how often they were looking over to the sidelines and then scrambling to get lined up.

I'm not trying to pile on, but curious - what is the point\reason for your post? Are you offering up a solution, suggestion that would have helped Tommy not make that mistake? If so, let's see if we can figure out why he threw that pick, and correct that too.

Sorry that people on here have different opinions than you and you can't handle it. You've demonstrated that time and again. When you get called out, or see a post you don't like you go full Karen and act like a 16 year old with a grudge against the boy who broke your heart.

I often say stuff people don't agree with, and we have a discussion and disagree like adults. We don't generally agree afterwards, and that's ok. You need to learn to be good with that.

I'm just responding to the notion that it was somehow the Cats had problems because EWU changed the gameplan. Cats came out REALLY flat & not ready to play...blame the bye week, blame the red field, blame the weather or lack of a crowd, blame whatever...but the Cats didn't look very to start, shot themselves in the foot a bunch, had to contend with some really obvious missed calls by the refs & still won comfortably on the road against a really solid team.

That pick was REALLY bad...maybe one of the worst 5 or 10 passes that Tommy has thrown in his entire career. Honestly, I chalk that up to just making a bad play...even superhuman players like TM are gonna make mistakes.

But a delay of game on the first snap? Thats a brain fart of epic proportions...

Anyway, its funny cause I've been one of the more optimistic posters about winning this game...I think it's a great win.

Just noting some things that were weird & self inflicted that the Cats did a great job of overcoming.

Fwiw, I think it’s fair to question how we got a delay of game to start the game. Even Vigen said that can’t happen.

Game wasn’t on ESPN+, so I have no idea if it was more of a coaching or players deal. Either way, can’t make simple mistakes like that against good teams.

Complainer? Tommy Mellot is the best QB in the FCS right now.
