Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - Idaho State
Watching the Idaho UC Davis game and the Eastern Montana game earlier, I am feeling much better about our schedule in conference play. Obviously we have to play the games but EWU and UM both showed big holes in their defense. The Griz were up 38-21 at one point and barely snuck out of the inferno with a W. I am a big proponent of always going for the points when you're within field goal range. Eastern kicks that field goal in the 3rd quarter and maybe they make it to overtime.
As for UC Davis and Idaho, I feel like our ground game can wear either defense down. and Tommy was not very crisp in his passing today and missed on some throws that I believe he will tighten up moving forward.
The split opinion on how the secondary played today aside, I feel like they played much better than any of the four teams EWU, UM, UCD, or UI.
the fourth quarter for the Bobcats was winning time and it was great to see them put it together and score 20. Rohan Jones 70 yard touchdown was awesome and the touchdown as time expired was great to see. I don't think VIgen/Walker go for that without the personal foul earlier from Hayes.
UNC heading into Bobcat Stadium next week, I think we will be up 28-0 at half time and see plenty of the 2's and 3's. I want to see Chance Wilson throw more next week and even get Jordan Reed some more reps. The offense seems to gel better with Wilson but I want to make sure that they both get plenty of playing time. Wagner for Idaho is in the tent right now and I think they are onto their 4th string QB.

Yeah I get we are betting on pressure getting home but the top level qbs are going to put more air under those and letting their guys go get it. Hopefully Daly sees that on the tape and addresses it.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:24 pmSeveral of those the QB was under pressure. I thought ISU first 2 TD drives starred with full 2nd unit DL in. They are good in rotation bit not nearly as strong if all 4 are 2s at same timeonceacat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:11 pmYeah, I think this DL is elite, the LBs are good, and the secondary is plenty adequate.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 10:02 pmPrior to this game, ISU was averaging 6.15 yards per play, and 6.67 yards per pass.
MSU held them to 4.5 yards per play, and 4.9 yards per play.
I think Oregon State and Western Oregon properly skew both ways for ISU.
Anytime you hold any team to ~2 yards per play less than their average, you’re doing good. Anything sub 5 yards is considered excellent. Just a little perspective.
As a unit, thats a REALLY good place to be.

you clearly have the most overinflated sense of self righteousness.
By the way I do hope our secondary defense continues to get better but they weren't bad today against ISU.
Edited to add: If you'd like to hear coach Vigen's opinion on the secondary play today take a listen to his post game interview that Colter has posted. Pay particular attention beginning at the 3:10 minute mark, and really focus in from 3:45 - 4:10.
Just saying that BBT and coach Vigen said almost word for word the same thing.

my self righteousness isn't what we're talking about. You don't know football. Break down WHY the secondary play was bad...please enlighten my self righteous self......break down the coverage responsibilities the routes being run and then tell me the why the secondary's tech was bad....to validate your claim of "they played bad".msuhunter wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 8:31 pmThis fits. They had 4 bad plays and you are saying they played bad.....that has nothing to do with my self righteousness and has everything to do with your lack of football knowledge...it seems if they aren't perfect then they are bad. I stated several times they do in fact need to improve, the do need to cut down on the big plays...but they didn't play bad. They played about avg if you watch ANY games other than MSU you would know that.....so unless you can give me a full breakdown(like I have done on multiple occasions...you know to validate my statements) then there is nothing else you need to say to me....now if you would like to give that full breakdown I will be more than willing to engage in what you are seeing vs what I'm seeing.

Any one surprised the kickoff that was ran out from about 8 yds deep gave Cats ball on 15. Only really bad ST play although first punt was spanked a bit.

Idaho about to lose. UCD looked good but Idaho’s offense is really questionable. Hoping we can get 3 top 10 teams (Idaho, UCC, um) and if we win all I’d expect a top 2 seed

Idahos 2nd string qb got hurt. Now playing with #3 on the depth chart. He looked pretty damn good by the way.

I thought he was #4. Either way they seem to have an unlimited supply of more than serviceable QBs.

I thought that was Latin-Henley but I didn't catch the number. If it was him, then I'd put that down to freshman inexperience.

yeah he was #4....he still looked good, I was impressed with him(I'm hard to impress...lol). I will disagree, I was pretty impressed with idaho's offense. Their strength matches our weakness at this time. They have some good passing schemes and Dwyer is a nasty with it. I made a post about this game. We better get ready cause both of these teams gonna be a problem for us for different reasons.coloradocat wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:29 pmI thought he was #4. This game was a lot of fun for multiple reasons. My sister and her husband live in Pocatello, another sister in Boise and a brother in Denver all made the trip along with our parents and a few friends and enough kids to outdo our enthusiasm. My daughter fell asleep in the first quarter and woke up just after halftime which I thought was fitting.
It was HOT in that dome. They could really stand to get some airflow of some sort going. I really enjoyed being able to hit the beer garden and sit with a couple beers at my seat. The place really is a dump but as far as the viewing experience goes it was great. ISU will continue to be a challenging team in the years to come. All the fans we sat next to were a lot of fun and very loud. The whole bobcat section brought it today. Although the have some things to work on, I feel like the team was a few plays away from really blowing the game out. ISU did a great job of mitigating all but one big play and keeping close. In the end I’m obviously happy that the cats won but were also forced into some adverse situations.

Re: The most unofficial Bobcat gameday thread - Idaho State
Just finished the rewatch. Here's all I'll say about this game:
Idaho's best offense was receiving our pressure and throwing up prayers and it worked about 30% of the time. If other teams want to do that at that success rate, be my guest. We missed or dropped seven interceptable balls in this game. Several players will be kicking themselves once film review is in session.
On ISU's final drive, Hunter Hays was brought down in a pile on the goalline and Brody was at the bottom of the pile. Obviously things aren't church-like in these scrums but as Hays was getting up he stumbled trying to get his balance but then looked down at Grebe and dropped an additional knee into Brodys head. He was properly called for UC but quite frankly he should be disqualified from playing next week. That sort of ****** is how kids get hurt. End of discussion.
ISU played with a ton of confidence and despite being down 31-10 were acting like they were dominating the game. Just a weird vibe from them. We weren't at all perfect on the back end but we did what we had to do to knock some balls down. Maybe I read the stats wrong but we had zero sacks and 9 or 10 QB hits? I know fans hate that they still get those throws off but just remember those are off schedule throws that lead to turnovers, incompletions, or tough catches a majority of the time because of the pressure. That final TD throw from Tracy as he was getting sacked by Brody was an absurd throw and he made a play. Overall, I don't feel great about our corners but I like the way they compete.
Offensively, Tommy had one of those "too juiced" games as the overthrow bit him multiple times. He made an insane run with a hurdle in the 3rd qtr which didn't count due to penalty. It's just so obvious part of our full offense isn't there because Tommy is choosing not to run the ball. Even on a few scrambles he decided to throw instead of doing his Tommy thing on the ground. Its a roller coaster ride with him but you have to give him kudos for how steady he has been in the 2nd half of games. He's the captain and everyone knows it. Love that we lulled them to sleep and popped Rohan for a long TD. Great call by Walker.
If Cody Hawkins has a problem with how we played that final drive, he should do some reflecting. Post 2 minute warning we ran 3 plays and he had 2 timeouts left. Should we have just let the clock run out? Maybe there should be a buzzer between coaches when the other gives up and wants to call game? Maybe line up and stop our run game? Give me a break.
This is a rivalry or at least it should be viewed as one. Montana and Idaho have their thing but us and the Bengals have ours. Again, they were very chippy and there was a fair amount of trash talking all game from both sides. No reason we shouldn't play each other every year. Do better Big Sky.
Love winning on the road! We are a good football team that is tough to play for 4 quarters. Are we legit? Well so far we are 5-0 so that obviously means we're perfect!

I would think Hays knee to the head falls under the definition of targeting. Force able contact to the head or neck area.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 29, 2024 2:18 amJust finished the rewatch. Here's all I'll say about this game:

And ISU used to be a huge rivalry for MSU. ISU being down and the new scheduling killed it.
