Do you know if he feels like he's getting jerked around, or whether he's planning a life beyond the NFL?

I can understand that guys probably get burned out just being on the practice squad. But man, they make SO much money. They'd be hard pressed to find something right away that is even close to that salary. If a guy is on a practice squad for three or four years, he could set himself up for the rest of his life. I do not mean to say that person wouldnt have to find another career. They absolutely would. But, paying cash for a house and investing in the stock market or other real estate. These guys would be ahead of 99% of 25 year old men.

I think he knows he's an underdog, and I also think he knows the Seahawks like him a lot. He's an injury away from playing, but I bet he also likes the opportunity to bet on himself. He wants to get into financial planning and he got engaged this summer, so my guess is that he'd walk away the minute he feels like he's getting jerked around. He'd get hired anywhere he wants to work...just an engaging, smart guy with an uncommon work ethic. But in financial planning he'd take a big pay cut at first, even coming from the practice squad.

Heck, I'd hang out for as long as I could at an NFL practice squad salary. I'm sure there are some other bennies as well.

Practice Squad Salary
Players with two or fewer seasons will be paid $12,500 per week in 2024.

I think this might have been addressed before, but I'm pretty sure that's not just game weeks. I think it's camp, bye weeks, playoffs, maybe OTA's? Pretty easy to get to 24 weeks, which gets you a cool $300k.

I don't think it applies to the practice squad members, but NFL players can be vested in their retirement system after three seasons. That's a screaming great deal, if you can make it that far.

Yeah that's what I was thinking as well. Since he finished last season on the active roster, I wonder if that counts as a year? Wonder how many weeks you have to be active to consider it a season?

The $12,500 per week is only during the regular season for Practice Squad players. During training camp and the preseason, all players (whether you're Patrick Mahomes or the last undrafted guy on the roster) make a set amount per week of $3200 for veterans and $1850 for first year players. $3200 per week is still pretty good especially considering that teams are required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement to provide housing for their players during camp as well as to reimburse players for any meals not provided by the team.

And the NFL has a two to one matching contribution to the players 401k with a 19,500 player max contribution. That's another amazing deal.

Just found this;

Credited Season
Generally speaking, you earn a Credited Season if you are employed as an Active Player (including an injured Player
considered to be an Active Player) on the date of three or more regular season or post-season NFL games (except the
Pro Bowl).
