BOTW series, 23/24

Post by Camo_Cat » Mon Feb 26, 2024 9:46 am

Poor showings in football and basketball dug a hole for the Cats this season, but thank goodness for the volleyball, cross country, and track/field teams coming through, picking up 6 crucial points for us (at least one of those points came from a Lady Cat b-ball win). It's a dead tie at 6 points for each school, with 5 points left up for grabs. Tennis, golf, and outdoor T&F. Next matchups don't happen until mid-April. We need our teams to come through with at least three of those remaining points to keep our win streak alive!!! GOCATS!!!

Golf seems like a very strong chance, MSU returns all five players from its team that finished 2nd at the Big Sky championship last year. I know MSU has some very good individual tennis players but not sure about the strength of the overall teams or how they compare to UM.

Pretty sad, this should be an automatic lock this late in the season. Football and Basketball need to get it together.

Football and the two bball games in Missoula were unacceptable. Giving some slack to the womens bball team is warranted with their injuries. But, to get absolutely blown out is crazy to me.

Hating the griz since 02.

I have no doubt that basketball will get it together, but a split for the women was a good result given their injuries and the UM men have a team with 38-year old Aanen Moody playing his 12th year, a bunch of other seniors and 5th year guys, and a coach who they are very fortunate to have retained for over a decade. Football was really bad but the Griz could say the same about last year's game, home field advantage has definitely played a huge role in those games lately.

Basketball totally had it together and we all know what happened to blow it up.

I was calling it for us when we were down 4-6. 4 events in track belong to us. Just 1 out if 3 events need to go our way.

Cat-Griz dual is today. Is that the meet that’s used in the BOTW series? Meet is nearly done but I don’t see a running score. Seems like MSU is ahead in both M and W meets. Women’s seems closer. ??

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

The conference meet is what is used for Brawl of the Wild points for track.

For this meet, MSU is leading both on the men’s and women’s sides.

Does rodeo count toward this?

Probably because it’s a club sport and not an NCAA sport.

I thought I should add that after I had posted.

I think MSU is in a pretty unique position where Rodeo is under the Athletic department and not "just" a club sport.

I thought it was in the same situation as baseball and hockey, etc., but I see it is listed on the sports department website. Good for them. I wasn't aware of that and don't recall when that occurred.

Just two or three years ago.
