NFL Prospects from 2023 team

Post by nanacat » Tue Jan 09, 2024 9:29 am

Several times I heard it stated that SDSU had several players who were NFL bound. What players from the Cats who have graduated do you see making a run to the next level? Did season ending, or end of the season, injuries hamper those possibilities? I know Snell and Chambers were mentioned throughout the season as having potential, are there others who might take/get a shot?

Chambers to the XFL, or what ever the new name is.

Someone may be a surprise but nobody is a lock. It just solidifies how special that 2021 team was in top-level senior talent by getting 2 players drafted and 5 (6?) who made a roster in the NFL. Some people thought 2 drafted should be the norm but at the FCS level, it was so rare I had to go back years to find the few other times it’s happened for 1-AA/FCS teams.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

What a ride

From the seniors, Snell probably has the best chance. I don’t think anybody else does, but I’ve been wrong before.

I think the NFL is looking at Chambers as an athlete and not a QB, at least that’s what I believe Vigen said. I guess Chambers could play receiver or maybe a tight end. Not sure where exactly he would fit.

Snell definitely gets a training camp look. I’m sure there are others that will work out on pro day. After Okada made the Seahawks roster, I’m not counting anyone out.

Are Snell's injuries healed up enough to make him competitive at pro day? Anyone know his status? And Chambers was hurt during the last game too.

I think that despite his low numbers, Pickering has as good of a shot as any one. Great hands and solid blocking.

MSU didn’t have their pro day until April last year. Not sure when it is scheduled for this year but if it’s around the same time, that gives a lot of these guys some good time to train and heal up…. barring any significant surgeries.

I think Pickering has a chance at one of the spring leagues but the NFL seems unrealistic. It's hard enough for FCS guys to get a camp invite, especially ones that don't get stats at skill positions.

Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

They'll probably have to do it the hard way. Get signed as an UDFA, and hopefully all the stars align at camp.

Agree with those who see several possibilities but no sure things. had been high on Pickering because he is a very smooth athlete, but concerned he might lack the straight line speed. Snell might latch onto a team b/c of his versatility, but think he only makes it as a fullback or H-back. He's a great blocker but not nearly as smooth Athletically as Pickering.

Chambers is definitely not a QB in the NFL, but maybe he can translate to a new position-- TE is the most obvious one.

Next year though we have a number of real pro prospects-- of course, probably our most surefire Prospect-- Seabass sadly transferred out. But I think Grebe has a strong shot of getting drafted and I think regardless he'll make a roster somewhere. He has the athletic chops and work ethic. Tommy would obviously has to switch positions but is enough of a freak athlete that I think he is a real possibility as well, though very likely he'd start on a practice squad. Marcus Wehr would need to put on some weight, but as a likely 2 time all-american still growing into the position he'd certainly have a shot-- really depends on his athletic testing. It's of course, extremely difficult to make the NFL as a K/P but Hall clearly has the leg to get a look as a kickoff/punting specialist.

Even guys like Danny U, Schmidt, and Ortt could get a look if we make a deep run and then they test well.

Even with the losses, we are loaded with NFL-level talent (or at least close to it) next year.

Maybe a Taysom Hill type situation? I could totally see Chambers getting in the UFL and making a splash.
