Heard he was doing so this morning. Not a big surprise. Hard to soften the blow for a player like Valdez. I think this is just something fans in the FCS should expect going forward until something is done to policy-wise to make things more stable but that may never happen.

College careers are short, and it used to be (70s and 80s) that hardly anyone played until their sophomore year. Most players waited until they were juniors to start, and many had to sit until their senior years. So, to have a player like Valdez and get three years is good.

I think it's also best that if a player transfers it's their senior year because that way the younger players can get their shot sooner and they might be a player that will stick around.

That's all I got for silver lining.

Thanks for the effort at coloring this pretty. You make valid points, but it still hurts. He'll be missed!

Holy shiite. Probably our 3 next players in the trenches, all gone.
F*** me.

Several weeks ago I heard three names that had the potential to earn 6 figure NIL money if they enter the portal: Rush, Omar, Sebastian.

Unfortunately that came true. You can't blame these kids for chasing their dreams...it just sucks.

Good luck to him, but it does suck.

Trying to be an optimist, I still like the DL and the opportunity for Brott / Black to take the next steps

Yep it sucks bad. Not sure we'll compete for a title next year without our 3 best trench players.

I'm thinking of entering the transfer portal myself right now, with my season tickets. But I'm probably just emotional right now.
Ugh this is just awful.

We’ve done it before. I’m not going to act like losing Omar and Rush isn’t a big deal, because it certainly is, but we have the players to suitably replace them. They might not be as good right now, but they’re more than good enough.

Valdez though, that one hurts. A lot. Darn near irreplaceable. But then, we said that about Chase Benson. About Zach Minter. And so on.

We’re a premier FCS program. We’re going to lose talent, and we’re going to get talent. The cycle will continue. And we’ll continue to get very good HS recruits by being able to say we’ve developed players that have gone on to get big money at big programs and players that have stayed and gone to the NFL. Good recruiters can use this to bring in good players.

Ya I suppose you're right. It's just a huge blow right now.

Yep, you can't blame them $ix figure$ has quite the pulling power but it really does suck. I knew there would be guys jumping into the portal and that Valdez could attract as much attention in the way of $ as almost anybody, but I went into this week feeling confident that he would be back. What gave me that confidence? Well Saturday night I saw him and nodded my head in recognition and gave him a big thumbs up. He actually initiated the conversation and along the way without me asking, said that he would be back next year which I told him was music to my ears. So now hearing that he has entered the portal it's as if the music suddenly stopped as someone scratched the needle across the whole LP (yes I'm old). This one hursts as much as any but good luck Mr. Valdez.

He probably did intend to stay at MSU but someone got in his ear in the last couple days about the NIL money he could make.

The portal - which sucks - puts a bigger emphasis on recruiting Montana kids, who, IMO are much less likely to leave. A friend of Marcus Wehr asked him what he would need in NIL money. He said, "a pickle barrel."

I get it but hang onto those. It is frustrating for sure. And hard to be hopeful. But we've got good players waiting in the wings looking for their opportunity. That's what I'm telling myself anyway.
