Re: Omar in the portal
From what I've heard the past few weeks, this was expected regardless of how this season panned out. Omar has NFL aspirations and wants the FBS experience to prove it. Good luck to Omar!

Best of luck to him. I jumped on the collective meet and greet with Omar a couple weeks ago, and he seems like an awesome young man. Bummed to see him leaving, but I imagine he's getting some big money thrown at him.

Re: Omar in the portal
Sucks, but we do hopefully have the pre season All-Big Sky player that actually played in front of Omar returning next year in JT Reed.
Best of luck to Omar, really do hope he does great.
Luckily OL is where we have depth and options.

Re: Omar in the portal
Thanks to Omar for all he did on and off the field as a Bobcat and good luck in FBS and hopefully the NFL! If someone close to him reads this thread, Oregon needs some help in the running game at both guard positions.

Everyone should keep in mind All-Big Sky OG JT Reed should be ready to roll next year who was our presumed starter heading into this season. We also have Cole Sain returning for another year. We also have like three to four other kids ready to jump into the competition. If we lose three starters from this years team, we still have one of the best lines in the country. The talent pool is deep.

Yep, Omar should get Power 5 (I guess Power 4 now) offers so I can't question his decision to transfer one bit. Best of luck to him and I agree that we'll be watching him in the NFL a few years from now. Excited to see who MSU can bring in to fill his spot, next man up!

JT Reed and Cole Sain were our starters at guard on the 2022 semi-final team. I see zero talent regression happening.MSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:23 pmYep, Omar should get Power 5 (I guess Power 4 now) offers so I can't question his decision to transfer one bit. Re: Omar in the portal
Unless there is a mass exodus, the online and RB positions have depth any FCS program should envy and the WR/TE groups have good top talent going into next season. It’s all about quarterback for me and Tommy’s timeline almost with a capable backup. I’m not expecting Chambers but there needs to be a contingency plan because of Mellott being injury-prone.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:22 pmEveryone should keep in mind All-Big Sky OG JT Reed should be ready to roll next year who was our presumed starter heading into this season. Re: Omar in the portal
These are the more understandable ones. Kid is from Texas, so not at all local--Only two years in the program and clear performance to move to Power 4/5 for multiple years as a starter. And, as noted, we have a lot of depth here. But also, this is what I mean by the importance of Vigen "recruiting" existing players. He has to make the case to these guys that the NFL can still find them at Montana State and that short-term NIL $ are not the end game.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:07 pmFrom what I've heard the past few weeks, this was expected regardless of how this season panned out. As others noted, the upside of essentially losing two starting linemen from 2022 is that we can have a few defections up front and still have a lot of talent/depth.
Of note, Conner Moore was one of three of our starting OL tweeting good luck saying "best lineman in the portal"-- which suggests he's not heading to the portal . .
All the same, I'll be happy if everyone else stays!

Re: Omar in the portal
Modern NFL scouting spans the entire country, making the NFL roster more diverse with players from all types of different programs, so the significance of the NFL card has diminished.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 12:34 pmThese are the more understandable ones. On the other hand, short-term NIL earnings are extremally impactful. Providing substantial cash to a person in their twenties, without strong ties to the team or community, can be sufficient to attract them away from MSU. Well-funded football programs can easily afford such investments, even for players who may not achieve notable awards during their playing careers.
