Just looking through this at first glance, I'm more concerned about our linebackers than maybe any other group. Do we expect Askelson to be ready? Not much depth behind him and Danny. I know McCade O'Reilly played some last year but we just feel awfully thin there to me.
I wasn’t expecting Askelson to play this year, but from the sounds of it he’s not only going to play but he’s going to start. That’s a huge boost. He and Uluilakepa are one of the best linebacker tandems in the league.

Depth-wise MSU only rotated one linebacker in with the starters on a steady, consistent basis last year. That’s the position that needs to be filled. McCade O’Reilly looked really good there. Cole Bullock, https://406mtsports.com/college/big-sky ... 5857d.html the JC transfer, sounds like a guy that got missed on coming out of high school due to Covid. I also like Neil Daily out of Billings. Jace Fitzgerald is another and I see Eli Aby is listed as a LB now.

MSU, in general, has had great depth for the past few seasons. The main issue has been holes at the top. When Ortt was out there were issues in the secondary but after he got a few games under his belt things cleaned up considerably and interestingly everyone/backups started to play better.

MSU’s practice method is a proven commodity in building depth.
I think the depth of our Linebackers will be a story line to watch as the season moves. I've always said, guys who get hurt tend to get hurt. Askelson and Uluilakepa fit that narrative. No doubt I hope to be wrong, but to expect those two to hold down the middle is unreasonable.
I’ll take it one step further and say I think you should expect to have players injured at every position. I don’t think you should figure that since a player has never missed a game due to injury that he won’t get injured. Hence why you should be building depth.

Last year MSU lost both QBs, two OL, four(?) RBs, one WR (non-injury), two DL, two LB, two DB (one non-injury) and that’s just off the top of my head.

Getting back to LB, last year MSU was fairly productive there despite having two of three main LBs going down to injuries.

I think if you’re worried about MSU’s depth at linebacker due to having players that have been previously injured, then you have to be really worried about quarterback and running back. Somewhat concerned about the OL etc.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Could the Crews kid be taught to play inside? At 223 he's still a bit light but he's also pretty young.

I thought Crews would have been a LB at the college level.

I noticed Hulverson and Swarthout weren’t on the Spring game roster or on the list of players withheld from the game.
