Just some fun off-season debate. Now lets talk about which women's sports to add with 18 more hockey scholarships and 22 more football when the MWC calls.
I'm in!! Would love to see women's soccer and women's softball added. Let's Go Cats!!
Costello mentioned that he would like to have women’s soccer someday. Soccer and softball, two more sports to beat the gris in.
The gris softball and soccer programs are actually pretty dang good. We'd have to field some legit teams to beat them. But, obviously that would be the expectation. Just may not happen right out of the gate.
The gris softball team was good right out of the gate wasn't it? They're currently 0-15, so if you line up an inaugural season with one like they're having now, you might win a couple games!
They haven't had a winning record since 2017. Yikes.
Whoa. I was WAAAYYYY off. Makes me smile.

Hating the griz since 02.

The schedule is set for the National Championship next weekend. The Cats are in a pool with New Hampshire, Indiana, and Lindenwood with the team with the best record advancing to the semi-finals. My guess is the game on Sunday will decide who advances and who goes home. The games can be streamed on HockeyTV (subscription required). Also, the teams Go Fund Me has been very successful, but they are still short of the goal so donate if you can, even if its $40 in honor of the fact that this team went 4-0 against the gris this year!

Game 1: Friday, March 17, 9:15 a.m. against the University of New Hampshire.
Game 2: Saturday, March 18, at 9:15 a.m. against Indiana University.
Game 3: Sunday, March 19, at 3:15 p.m. against Lindenwood University.

Cats kicked of that national tournament with a 6-4 win Over New Hampshire this morning, led by a 2 goal performance by captain Ryan Perius, including an empty netter to ice the game away. They take on Indiana tomorrow at 9:15am.

It was also announced this week that Bobcat head coach Dave Weaver was named ACHA D2 Coach of the Year. A deserving award, its hard to overstate what Coach Weaver means to this program.

I created a post in the "Other Sports" category, but I love that Bobcat Hockey was promoted to the Football section.

You can follow pool play results here: https://www.achahockey.org/stats/schedu ... 1&league=1

As js1010 said, they won their first game over New Hampshire 6-4 in a very physical match. Cats were down 1-3 after the first, but dominated the second and third periods with physical play. If you want to watch your Bobcats continue their run, you can sign up for an account on Hockey TV. The first game was worth the $$.

Head coach Dave Weaver being selected as the ACHA Div. II National Coach of the Year is a big deal for MSU hockey.

Go Cats!

Hockey needs to be a sport at MSU. Men’s and women’s.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Agreed. And so does wrestling. I’d LOVE for both to be added. But the biggest issue I see is competition logistics. Closest D1 wrestling is UWyo, Northern Co. Utah Valley, and NDSU. Hockey is similar. UND, Denver U., Colorado College, etc.

The golf team’s “home invitational” is played in Arizona. Hockey seems a better fit.

Baseball. Softball. Women's Wrestling. Rifle Team. Beach Volleyball (just for all the Cali transplants). Rowing and Crew (for all the northeast and midwest transplants). Bikini Skiing (for all the ones who remember tow ropes at Bridger long before Big Sky was Chet's vision). Beer Pong. Skijoring (for all the Colorado escapees who tired of Steamboat's lift lines). Keg Contests (to include but not limited to Keg Softball). Hippie Haircut Contests.
