Re: Transfer Portal
Not sure what is going on with programs like UIW and Campbell but they are killing it in the transfer market. They are signing some big time recruits.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 10, 2023 10:40 pm
I am sure we will see more additions from the transfer portal between now and next summer….
But with that being said, Vigen has made it pretty clear that he wants the focus to be on highschool recruits that he can develop (hopefully long term). Which I totally agree with.
I don’t think he wants to be one of those programs that just signs like 15-20 transfer portal guys every year as a “quick fix”.

Re: Transfer Portal
Reaching deep into the transfer portal is a roll of the dice regarding team chemistry and culture. Example: Missouri State was nationally ranked top 10 pre-season with lots of "big" transfers and finished 8th (3-5) in the MVFC.1984champ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:21 pmNot sure what is going on with programs like UIW and Campbell but they are killing it in the transfer market. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't believe relying heavily on the portal is a model for consistently being an elite program.

Re: Transfer Portal
UIW had quite the haul today from the transfer portal and they needed it. I think they only signed 4 HS kids on early signing day and they lost about as many transfers as they picked up. It’ll be interesting to see what Calzada can do down there.1984champ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 4:21 pmNot sure what is going on with programs like UIW and Campbell but they are killing it in the transfer market. Re: Transfer Portal
It feels slimy when a school takes a bunch of transfers and very few HS recruits. Especially when they’re in such a talent rich area.1984champ wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 7:54 pmNew Incarnate Word HC Clint Killough (@Coach_Killough) is on on the recruiting trail this weekMontanabob wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 7:38 pmND0479 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 11, 2023 7:08 pmUIW had quite the haul today from the transfer portal and they needed it. Re: Transfer Portal
As I read this, it sounds like they’re trying to eliminate scenarios that allow kids to hop around schools until they find one that they’ll get playing time. Did I read that right?

Re: Transfer Portal
Pretty much, sounds like they want to allow one transfer and then a second transfer only if a player has graduated and still has eligibility left. Anything beyond that would need a special waiver of the rules for one of the reasons mentioned in the article.94VegasCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 12:25 pmAs I read this, it sounds like they’re trying to eliminate scenarios that allow kids to hop around schools until they find one that they’ll get playing time. Re: Transfer Portal
Think of all these kids that transferred down to an FCS school for playing time that were hoping to get a P5 offer when they transferred next year, now they are stuck at the FCS school.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 12:36 pmPretty much, sounds like they want to allow one transfer and then a second transfer only if a player has graduated and still has eligibility left. I'm sure any new rule wouldn't be retroactively applied.cats2506 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 1:07 pmThink of all these kids that transferred down to an FCS school for playing time that were hoping to get a P5 offer when they transferred next year, now they are stuck at the FCS school.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 12:36 pmPretty much, sounds like they want to allow one transfer and then a second transfer only if a player has graduated and still has eligibility left. Taco can do everything he can plus return punts. Not worried about him leaving one bit.

Re: Transfer Portal
It's not retroactive, but goes into effect 23-24 season, so any player that transferred in the last few months could not transfer again next year unless they graduate.CelticCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 6:36 pmI'm sure any new rule wouldn't be retroactively applied.cats2506 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 1:07 pmThink of all these kids that transferred down to an FCS school for playing time that were hoping to get a P5 offer when they transferred next year, now they are stuck at the FCS school.MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 12:36 pmPretty much, sounds like they want to allow one transfer and then a second transfer only if a player has graduated and still has eligibility left. Thomas was the best route runner on this year's team. Fortunately, that's something that can be coached.ThoughtUKnew14 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 8:24 pmTaco can do everything he can plus return punts. Not worried about him leaving one bit.
