I got hung up on that at first too but he's saying there were 22 players missing, which is enough to field two teams of 11.Montanabob wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 10:31 pmDoes Flores even know how to proof read?
First paragraph....
Montana State was missing enough players in its spring football game to field entire units on both sides of the ball.

Re: Spring Game
Reads to me that at least 11 players at multiple positions were out on each side of the ball. Enough to field 22 more players total. Seems obvious.Montanabob wrote: ↑Sat Apr 23, 2022 10:31 pmDoes Flores even know how to proof read?

Jordan Reed looked impressive. I think he just joined the team in January so very little prep time.

Here is the game roster. Casey Bauman is still listed.
Who is Devin Slaughter? I don’t believe I’ve seen his name before.

Re: Spring Game
How was the OL? 270 yards rushing on 54 totes is a good sign. Assuming Blue team had the #1 offense and Gray had #1 defense. Blue had 30 for 170.
Vigen seems to have liked it: “I thought those guys (running backs) got some good work in today," said MSU coach Brent Vigen. "And they don't do that without good line play."

I thought the 1st team OL played pretty well all things considered. They were moving the LOS.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 9:19 amHow was the OL? 270 yards rushing on 54 totes is a good sign. Assuming Blue team had the #1 offense and Gray had #1 defense. Blue had 30 for 170.

Seems like they met all their goals:
1. No injuries
2. OL taking shape
3. Mellott close to 100%

Is Casey still in school? Should still be on scholarship until end of term. Was he on the field?

I don't know who needs to hear this, but we started a TJ and JT on the OL, and the JT was JT Reed who is a different dude than Jordan Reed - a quarterback. Easy enough.

Re: Spring Game
Its hard to know what's good and what's bad in a scrimmage. The run game looked good, but is that because the O-line is dominant, or did our D front 7 take a step back with all the key losses? Hard to say for certain, but if Vigen liked it then its probably good.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 9:19 amHow was the OL? 270 yards rushing on 54 totes is a good sign. One thing that is certain after seeing the scrimmage - the QB group as a whole is the strongest its been since the Ash era. All of them showed flashes. Mellott looked solid. Chambers showed serious arm strength and pocket presence, and made several great throws - but needs to eliminate the mistakes and just take off or throw it away rather than forcing the ball when coverage is there. Reed and Austin also showed some good flashes, especially Reed on the game winning drive.
Was a little surprised to see several missed FGs.
Sumner looked good, he looks thicker in the legs to me. Coon had some nice runs also.
The secondary looked very good, and considering that Okada didn't even play - that group will be a big strength.

Re: Spring Game
I thought Sumner did just what I thought he could. His legs have always been bigger than most of his peers. I remember watching him run wild in the Badlands Bowl a few years ago, and was very happy that he was an MSU recruit. Sneaky fast in traffic.
I had to look up #38 to find Garrett Coon. I was impressed by his first long gain, and wanted to take a name down. What stuck out to me was his ability to quickly change directions in traffic. Even though he looks the part of a bruiser, I was pleased to see him succeed at that old-time technique of actually running between defenders and not over all of them. Keep an eye on this guy.

Re: Spring Game
That’s true. You have to factor a lot of things in a scrimmage, especially a spring game. I think the DL is going to be very good again. There are some playmakers and good depth. Plus, Ifanse and Elliott sat out. Usually the defense has the edge, so all those things are positives for the OL in this game. Seems like a good start.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 4:33 pmIts hard to know what's good and what's bad in a scrimmage.
