Spring Game

Post by catscat » Sat Apr 23, 2022 3:30 pm

Wasn't at the game, but enjoyed it on TV. (Except for the announcing - too much chit chat and not enough play by play).

I like that Coach let them play and the players were competing and into the game. Meanwhile, Coach was quite jovial and seemed to be enjoying how seriously the players were taking the game. Gray team won 24-17 in a stirring second half comeback.

Other than Chamber's three INTs, everyone looked pretty good.

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

What a fun game, especially for a spring game. I'm super excited about our quarterbacks this year. Vike-King ... saw you were on the box today, looked like fun. Wish I could have been there, can't wait until fall.

That was the best spring game I've seen. The usual guys were great and the younger/new guys looked to be really strong. I've never seen an edge of your seat spring game. I think that bodes well for the future

Seabass is looking huge. Not a bad game. Enjoyed it.

Yeah kind of wishing Pawlak hadn't left now.

Sumner is very clearly one of the top 3 backs when healthy.

I thought Tommy Mellot looked solid! No issues with his ankle at all. Threw well today. Ravi Alston is going to be a great addition.

Several moments of laughter in the stands when Mellots competitive nature took over as he broke the ‘no contact rules’ and took off running a few times.

Ha. Ok...

1. Glessner is going to be just fine. He just put up an all time season last year as a freshman. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him own about every kicking record by the time his career is over.

2. We also have that kicker coming in as freshman, forget his name, from butte I believe... but he was a big recruiting win.

What I’m getting at is that we don’t need pawlak.

Solid game. Nice to see it stay competitive. I think the emotion kept play at high level to end. Ebb of game also made coaches think on their feet and adjust and gave good situational events. Only negatives were missed FG and Chambers 3 picks.

Was a fun game to watch, couple observations.

1. QB might be our deepest position, and I'd give Reed the #2 nod over Chambers. I thought Austin looked good too. Best crop of QBs we've had in a while.

2. The Defense looks legit yet again, excited to see what Mack's D looks like when its all said and done.

3. We're gonna miss Lance but Willie is going to have a breakout year. You can really tell he's putting in the work.

4. I'm concerned about our O-line, that groups had a rough go.

5. I think Udy should be OC.

Pretty good game. Was shocked to see snow in the opening shots. Several bright spots. Looking very forward to the season...

Regarding the QB play you have to remember that chambers couldn’t run. His arm is by far and away the strongest arm of all the QBs and you have to chalk up his picks due to it being a spring game. If he could loosing up the defense by using his legs the cbs and safeties have to worry more about more than just their guy. Reed looked good but it was against the second team and no doubt they weren’t going 100% against each other. If you have a live spring game Chambers looks way better than that and so does Mellot.
It was a fun game for sure, and a good crowd considering the weather early.
1. Mellot
2. Chambers
3. Reed

If your left, you aren’t right.

His kicking fell off a little late in the season. This wasn't just a spring game thing. He's a solid kicker no doubt, and young so you are probably right he'll get back on track. A solid backup is a good thing to have though.

Does Flores even know how to proof read?
First paragraph....

Montana State was missing enough players in its spring football game to field entire units on both sides of the ball.

That was a good, competitive scrimmage. Very well coached team. Easily a top 10 team imo. Gonna be a fun year.

I want to know where will the video of Danny U be shown. He was carrying around a microphone the whole time with a young lady following him around with a video camera. Always had a smile on his face.
