Placing young men in the NFL will ebb and flow. Some years will we do it. Some years we don't. Occasionally, maybe once a decade or more, we put in two guys like this year. It won't always correlate to how good the team is or how far we go in the playoffs. Personally, I'm just enjoying the ride.
What we need is a 4 year all American QB that gets to the NFL.
Can you name one that has done this from the Big Sky?
I was thinking Neil Lomax might count. He had 3 pretty stout years at Portland State before heading to the pro scene. But on checking Portland State was a 1-AA Independent when Lomax played.
Actually, Portland State was still D-II when Lomax played for them. They didn't move up to I-AA/FCS until they joined the BSC, for the 1996-97 academic year.
Portland State was indeed a 1-AA Independent from 1978-80 which were Lomax sophomore to senior seasons according to their own PSU history documents. They returned to D-II in 1981 due to financial issues.
Some people might remember that during Lomax senior year PSU beat Delaware State 105-0 and Weber State 75-0. And Lomax passed for 13,000 yards and had 100 TDs in college. A second round pick for the NFL draft.
PSU history document at link below for those who are interested which I suspect will be not very many!
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... istory.pdf
And just for “kicks and giggles” I looked at the PSU 1980 season to see how they finished and ranked with 1-AA Independents. Note the link below also shows their schedule that year in 1-AA.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Po ... tball_team
Thanks for the correction. I didn't realize that they were I-AA at one time, and then dropped back down to D-II. There are not many instances of programs dropping down, with Idaho being one of the few that I can remember.
I saw that both Idaho and Idaho State both beat Portland and the gris lost to Portland.
The Gris weren't very good in those days. That was their first season under Larry Donovan, after Gene Carlson was fired. They had a couple of good years under Donovan in 1981 and 1982, but then the floor fell out from under them again, until Don Read came along in 1986. Idaho State won the national championship the next season, in 1981, after Boise State won in 1980, and then MSU won in 1984, so that made 3 NC in 5 years for the BSC.
I was surprised to see that both Delaware and James Madison were independents back then, two programs that have been highly successful for many years in I-AA/FCS. I don't believe there were many teams in the I-AA division back then. I-AA was formed in 1978, and for the first few years, only four teams made the playoffs. By our 1984 national championship season, the field had been expanded to 12 teams.

PSU head coach, Mouse Davis was kind of a jerk for running up the score. Beating teams 93-7, 105-0 and 75-0 is a really a**hole move. I wouldn't blame Weber State for still running up the score 40 years later.

What goes around comes around. Just as Mick Dennehey got paid back in Troy, Alabama when went to Utah State, Mouse got the same thing when he was on Glanville's staff. Payback's a bitch.
Ran into Russ Rader, one his high school quarterbacks, when he was on a post doctoral fellowship at the Savannah River Site. He always talked about the difference of being able to do anything on offense as a quarterback but how humbling it was to play cornerback when he played for BYU.

Hardy seems to pop up all over! Hopefully Lance and Daniel are fitting right in, It would be awesome to see Cooper take Lance under his wing!

Kupp would be about as good a mentor as anyone could ask for, in terms of learning how to play WR in the NFL, and he seems like the kind of guy who would do everything he could to help Lance be successful. As a Rams fan, it would be really exciting if both Hardy and Lance end up making the roster this fall.

Agreed, I'm really hoping they make it too. I've heard Kupp is about the nicest guy in the world too, so there's a chance!

Yep, not only a nice guy, but apparently he also has an extremely strong work ethic. You have to believe that Kupp would love to see another BSC player achieve success as a teammate.

I’d be surprised if Daniel doesn’t make the full roster, which doesn’t mean he’ll be active for games, and if Lance isn’t signed to their practice squad.
Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings
What a ride

I sure wouldn't bet against either of those two.

So you don't think there's much chance either would see the field in 2022, even in pre season? Sorry for being dumb, but I don't understand your first comment. Per the definition below, I guess what you're saying is that he could make the 53 roster, but could be one of the 6 players not eligible for the game?
There are a total of 53 players on an NFL roster. Out of those 53 players, 47 players are eligible to play during a football game. Out of that 47 players, only 11 can be on the field for the offense, defense, and special teams at any given time.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Didn't you also say he wouldn't get drafted?

Very cool. Thanks! Stuff like this makes the NFL teams seem more “real” or relatable. It’s nice to see the players with their helmets off and Daniel holding his own. I know I’m going to be watching a lot of Rams and Falcons this year.
