Re: 2022 Defensive Line
I'd like to see one transfer along the interior-- someone with legit size to handle powerful interior offensive linemen.

Regimbal doing anything would be a pleasant surprise. He’s been here for what, 2 seasons, and hasn’t played at all due to injuries and whatever else. I guess I just don’t see how he can be penciled in to the 2 deep.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
The edges will be good. Lot of talent there.
I think the interior needs help.
Valdez is going to be really good, but he needs to bulk and strengthen up. Hehl is a solid hustle player, but he’s not an impact player. He’s just solid. Schmidt flashed, so hopefully those become more consistent. What I would really love is to get a iDL transfer or two who can actually play, and situationally move Valdez to SDE against teams like NDSU. On the first two downs play him for the run game, then move him inside. Basically a jumbo version of Amandre. It most likely won’t happen, but that’s my dream.

We did lose a bit BUT we also were deep. Do not forsee a big drop off.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 11:37 amThe edges will be good. Lot of talent there.

If you browse the site that will remain unnamed a few are saying we lost LOTS and are claiming we will be lucky to be top 15 or 20 by seasons end... A few predict they could go undefeated.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
He's played a little, but right now I don't know who else to put at the other DE spot - Alston didn't show much when he played this year and Ben Seymour is more of a pass rush specialist. I don't even know who the other candidates at DE are... Eiden? Neil Daily?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 11:34 amRegimbal doing anything would be a pleasant surprise. Re: 2022 Defensive Line
I think there are 2 ways to evaluate next year's DL. One, will there be a dropoff talent wise for a DL that proved very good against all but 1 team. And two, is the DL making strides to physically compete against the likes of NDSU.RickRund wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 12:04 pmWe did lose a bit BUT we also were deep. I agree there won't be a big dropoff, but I don't yet see MSU accomplishing #2 which is an extremely high bar but one that needs to be attained for a national championship.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
Just curious about Grebe. Great edge rusher and obvious has the ability to make an impact.
But at one time Vigen mentioned Grebe might get some time at LB also….we didn’t see it this year but I was wondering if we see him used in a LB role or are you pretty sure he is set on DE.
Just challenging the consensus here. I always thought Grebe had a better frame for a LB. Remember Grebe ran an 11.1 time in 100 m and 22.8 in 200…so not as fast as Troy but a pretty good set of wheels. For the track buffs he outjumped Troy by over a foot in Long Jump and threw the shot 4’ further in his track days. Should Grebe be groomed to takeover the key LB roles as a junior and Senior?

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
You never know. I have no inside info about that. I think Danny U and O’Reilly will be the starting linebackers. If Grebe is moved to linebacker then MSU will be very deep there.BobcatDel wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 1:45 pmJust curious about Grebe. Great edge rusher and obvious has the ability to make an impact.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
I saw Grebe’s family all wearing #10 jerseys in Frisco. I laughed a little because Brody was switched to #14. Bad timing, I guess. Reminded me of a fan a few years back that purchased a #5 jersey for Dakota Prukop, right before Dakota bailed for Oregon. That guy just added a #7. Classic. Not sure how you change a 0 to a 4.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
Grebe told me he had to switch to 14 because they wanted him to play on special teams and there was already a 10 on special teams. ( Not sure who that was). Maybe next year he's back to 10 full-time.
Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
Kind of shocking considering that this years Seniors (i.e. Chase Benson) were recruited by Rob Ash & Jamie Marshall.
So they got recruited to play in the Jamie Marshall D, then went through Ty Gregorak, Kane Ione, and Freddie Banks as DCs not not mention 2 head coaches & I can't even remember the DL coaches at this point.
I think its really a testament to the overarching strength of the program, from AD down to new recruits. I'm with you...I think this group is going to be really solid because MSU has mostly completed the transition to an elite program where they continue to develop really solid players & throw in a few good transfers every year.
Should be a recipe for long term success on the DL-even if if didn't look like it last weekend.

Nolan Askelson might have something to say about that.

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
That fact blows my mind. Rob Ash seems like ancient history! Then again, 2020 and 2021 probably have something to do with that... Been a looooong couple of years.onceacat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:27 pmKind of shocking considering that this years Seniors (i.e. Chase Benson) were recruited by Rob Ash & Jamie Marshall.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Because he’s a very good pass rusher, which generally, is more valuable than an off ball LB. Why move him?

Re: 2022 Defensive Line
Not quite sure why we would move our best DE/Edge player to LB where he would be the 4th or 5th best option (Callahan, Nolan, Danny U, and even Alex J. play a better LB at this point in this defense). Brody is going to be our Daniel Hardy for the next three years.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 3:26 pmBecause he’s a very good pass rusher, which generally, is more valuable than an off ball LB. Grebe is a freak. Daniel Hardy would tell you he’s going to be a better version of Daniel Hardy.
I’m just surprised no one is thinking Ifanse should move to tight end. C’mon BN!! You’re slacking today!!
