Tommy's Injury
Anyone know what the injury was or how severe it was? I heard foot and then ankle.

Re: Tommy's Injury
Will we find out? I"m guessing ankle because he taped it up and tried to go. But heck it could be something in the foot, or even fibula type thing (just pure speculation).

Re: Tommy's Injury
Ran into him and his family at dinner after the game. Initial thoughts - high ankle sprain. He was wearing a boot. No definite diagnosis or further thoughts until x-rays Monday morning.

Re: Tommy's Injury
Probably no spring practice for TT Mellott. I'm hearing it is a broken ankle, not a sprain. Hoping for a quick heal up Tommy!

I was wondering about that….It looked pretty bad. Possibly surgery?Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:29 pmProbably no spring practice for TT Mellott. I'm hearing it is a broken ankle, not a sprain. Hoping for a quick heal up Tommy!
It will be interesting to see how we use Tommy moving forward.

Re: Tommy's Injury
That is crazy! If you rewatch the play, no contact or anything, he just stepped to throw a pass, and started limping… must have popped something.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!

Watch it again. The injury happened when he got tackled on a play before that.

I may be mixed up on this, but don't ankle breaks usually heal better than sprains?Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:29 pmProbably no spring practice for TT Mellott. I'm hearing it is a broken ankle, not a sprain. Hoping for a quick heal up Tommy!

Depends on the severity and if there is any ligament damage.msuhunter wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 1:25 pmI may be mixed up on this, but don't ankle breaks usually heal better than sprains?Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:29 pmProbably no spring practice for TT Mellott. Re: Tommy's Injury
There are sure-fire remedies in the surgical field for ankles. If it's bad enough (broken, severely torn) he can get that area it all but permanently fixed surgically. I know from experience. I wouldn't worry about it. Bad (high or broken) ankles are a done deal for an athlete. You simply cannot go, especially if you're a running QB at the time of the injury. This is why Mellott didn't come back.

Watching him trying to walk it off on the sidelines about made me vomit, That kind of pain is excruciating, (personal experience as well), yet he kept trying to fight through it.
The legend keeps growing. Time and youth are on TT Mellott's side.

Re: Tommy's Injury
The reason you don't hear of players missing action for 10 weeks for high ankles sprains ankle breaks is because many of them opt for Arthex surgery. Some people, including big OL, return from it in 3-4 weeks. Amazing. Depending on what he opts to do he could be back for spring ball.

And I believe it rolled the worse way (as in out, instead of in??)--looked extremely painful.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:55 pm

I could be wrong but I also feel like the damn slippery field had a hand in it.

Re: Tommy's Injury
...a simple fibula break can heal in 4-6 weeks. Painful yes but not a weight bearing bone so quick to heal in most healthy people. A bad high sprain can sometimes be worse but then again depends so that is not always the case..Some people heal quicker than others. Dak Prescott had a pretty severely broken ankle and he back on it in like 4 months. Look at the leg injury Alex Smith had....his took a bit longer ...I bet we see TT playing sooner than later. Heck he might be out doing sprints right now...Tough kit and gamer that guy.

Re: Tommy's Injury
Viewing the replay Tommy's sprain most likely looks like an eversion (medial ligament/inside ankle) sprain. These are less common than inversion (lateral ligament/outside ankle) sprains, which are from rolling over your ankle. High ankle sprains are cause by inversion sprains, so I would not think this is what he has. it all depends on how pulled or torn the affected ligament (medial) is.
