Re: Sam Houston
Of the 8 teams remaining, SHSU might be the least tested. Definitely bottom three.
Mellott will have an efficient game passing vs SHSU. The wind Saturday was a blessing in disguise for MSU. Mellott would’ve had a good game and MSU would expect as much this week.
SHSU is good vs the run, but it’s folly to compare this game with the UM game because:
1) crowd noise won’t be the same.
2) Reimer will have four weeks of practice with 1s vs just one.
3) Ifanse is 100%
4) Mellott instead of McKay starting
5) Mellott isn’t coming off bench purely to run.
6) Mellott runs better than McKay
7) Mellott runs read option better than McKay
I’d have more, but I hate it when this happens on the eighth item.

I would add that we need to do these things when it’s not so predictable. We’ve had success completing third and lungs against lesser opponents. We need to keep them off balance in a timely manner. Hope that makes senseutucats wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:31 pmI agree. Every time they sell out on the run we have to try and make them pay. We don’t need perfect balance but enough of a passing game to keep their defensive calls balanced.Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:29 pmThe cats will have to establish a quick passing game in my opinion. I think if we go in there and try to establish the run, I fear we might have a Cat/griz type of result. In short, unless we can have more of a balance offensively, at least early in the game, I find it hard to believe we will be able to dictate our terms with their mass upfront and their speed.

I think they got tested this past Saturday, that was when they had their guard down. Hard to imagine they will come in flat but they did have a track meet and might be a little tired. If we lean on them the Bobcats should be able to break it open in the second half. Just hang with them and put doubt in their minds. That’s how you beat a Texas team. Beat them up in the trenches

RdZnTD %...76..............55...............62.5..........44
The BOLD #’s show where something’s gotta give...
I watched some of the UIW @ SHSU game…..wow the UIW QB can throw. I’d describe him as Barriere esk that can’t run nearly as good…..he threw for 481 yads vs SHSU.
The teams they’ve played haven’t been balanced. SHSU’s defense gives up 3.5 yards in passing for every yard rushing. If we can make that even I think we’ll win.
I think it comes down to …….can our run game vs their run defense combined with our new QB’s/teams passing game be able to put up ~27+ points or so (say ~ 380 yds of offense). I think our defense will keep them ~ the mid 20’s or so. GO CATS!

Re: Sam Houston
Where are you finding that and what days? I had looked out of Bozeman and it was close to $600 a person for going down on Friday and returning on Sunday.

Colter showed me that Saturday after the game. I believe it was Allegiant out of Missoula.

Re: Sam Houston
Ah, actually hadn't looked at allegiant so I'll check there out of Bozeman. Definitely not interested in driving to missoula to wait on an Allegiant flight that will take off 4 hours late.

I don't see any Allegiant flights into Houston, from Misoula Bozeman or GF. The closest one is Bozeman to Austin which gets you about 160 miles away from Houston.

It's offensive to call him Chris Murray. He's WAY to smart for thatonceacat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 7:57 pm
And obviously Mellot isn't the second coming of Tyler Bruggman. But he could be Chris Murray. But as you pointed out before, thats based on a really small sample size. But so far his passing isn't any better than Chris'. I've said repeatedly that the jury is out. We will get a chance to see next week. If he completes 60% and 7-8 yards per attempt, the Cats have a really good shot at knocking off the #1 team in the country.
I'm not sure what seems so out of line there...or anything that I said that would make someone think I don't like the Cats.
I'm not the one on the message board calling players "bitches"...so what do I know?

Going FBS is just amazing to me. They average about 5,000 fans a game. It’s just nuts. That’s a lot of fan base building to do.Bobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 10:37 amI hear they are going to an all Orange turf for their FBS move next year...The Butcher wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 10:26 amI really like the track around the football field. Re: Sam Houston
Preparation: 1) Identify what TM has done naturally with success the past month.
2) At TM's career stage currently, what are natural problems/inexperience.
3) Based on 1 and 2 above, do not try to coach TM up.
4) Identify other offense strengths and give TM a chance to use those strengths with his current tools.
5) Create list of Mistakes TM cannot make based on plays called. TM is too young to deal with these Mistakes
and he has strong skills to complete a game without coaches "calling mistakes."
Win this game based on TM's talent not based on coaches expertise, skills, and creativity.

Re: Sam Houston
I think the most offensive thing said on this post is that this is the best offense we will face all season. EWU was the best offense we will face all season, no matter what. I think this MSU defense is being sorely underestimated in this matchup. I think the MSU defense >> SHSU offense. With respect to the offense against SHSU, I think MSU has the right formula to beat SHSU. I'm putting down a bold statement.
MSU runs for 250+ yards against that defense.
If playing NDSU has taught us nothing the last two seasons we've played, it's that the best playoff teams run the ball well against teams that have stopped the run all year and stop the run against teams that have run the ball all year.
Finally - and I believe this to be a not-insignificant advantage for MSU - SHSU has played 21 games so far this year. At some point of time, the wear and tear has to be too much for these players. Moreover, this will be their sixth playoff game this year. The biggest margin of victory was last week (7 points) and that was within one yard of going to overtime. Kudos to SHSU if they can continue to do this. They are obviously a fantastic team, but MSU is a unique test not just because of the style of play, but also because they did not play in the spring.

They might not put up the yards and points like EWU against good defenses, but SHSU will be a challenge just cause they’re not so one dimensional as EWU is. They have a good qb and wrs and they run it well, so I just think people say they’re the best offense team that we have faced because they are the most balanced team we have faced so far.

Re: Sam Houston
SHSU is very good and should be a TD favorite. So hard to say. They won it in 2020. MSU made semis in 2019 and lost to one of the best NDSU teams. I think MSU is better defensively than the 2019 team. I don’t think SDSU is as good as NDSU was in 2019. But the Bobcats lost 42-14, so they don’t have to be.jgrilley406 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 1:18 pmThey might not put up the yards and points like EWU against good defenses, but SHSU will be a challenge just cause they’re not so one dimensional as EWU is. I have no idea how the MSU offense is going to perform. Definitely need to not get behind. The defense almost has to have its A game and there cannot be any special teams problems. If MSU can keep it close for three quarters and be more physical, then it has a good shot.

Sportsbetmontana opened with SHSU as 6.5 pt favorites and the over/under is 49.5.
