Cats vs. UT - Martin predictions

Post by BleedingBLue » Sun Nov 28, 2021 4:08 pm

Tennessee Martin is coming to town. Out of the 2 possible matchups for this game, UT-Martin is definitely better for the Cats. UTM could not run the ball against Missouri State until late in the 3rd quarter. MO State would have been a really tough matchup for the Cats. This game offers a much better matchup for our offense. The defensive matchup is similar if UTM's starting QB is back.

I think the D will have a good day, no matter who is at QB. Howard will be hobbled if he starts, with 2 torn ligaments in his foot. If Winn starts, the D line should have a great day. The UTM offense has been a lot like ours this year, more running, less passing. They have a thousand yard rusher and a brusining back with 14 TDs on the year. Offensively we should have a good day running the ball. The teams that have played best against UTM have been able to run the ball effectively.

I'm not super confident in our offense. If the offense was looking like it did early in the year I'd predict a blowout. As it stands now I'm thinking a 2-3 score win and we comfortably lead most of the game.

20-13 good guys. Here’s to hoping the offense comes alive!

Edited my score. Just not much faith with the QB situation and our OC.

The key here is turnovers. UTM won because of Missouri States mistakes. Protect the ball, we win.

I think the score depends on whoUTM has playing. If they get get some players back, they may be competitive. However, to much complaining about the offense out there. McKay and Co. Respond respectfully 33-10. Defense will score in this one!

Whoa! Tee Martin. I like the reference and name coincidence, but don't conjure up that college football ghost.

Martin took over at QB at Tennessee after Peyton Manning was done. Manning couldn't win the national title, but Martin did it in 1998 (his first year as the starter) taking the Vols to a 13-0 record and a win over Florida State. Crazy how things work out That was back when college football had a little more parity.

I'll go with a MSU winning 31-14.

I think it’s closer than I want it to be but our defense is still good enough to get the win.

Has anyone really looked at their resume? It's pretty dang impressive. For example UTM beat Jax State, which beat Florida State. Ten wins is nothing to sneeze at. Given our offensive production down the stretch I'm afraid this will be a close game that will have us squirming in our seats.

I spent some time looking at their resume this afternoon and it’s not impressive.

Their FCS opponents have a collective 37% win rate. Jacksonville State did indeed beat FSU. They also went 4-5 in FCS play. They’re not good.

UTM played two FCS teams all season with a winning record— 6-5 AP and 6-5 Murray.

Missouri State was far and away the best FCS team they’ve played all season and they won by one point despite being +5 in the turnover margin.

I think this will be a pretty low scoring game - as much as we'd love MSU's offense to immediately go back to putting up 40 or 50 points it's likely not going to happen. On the plus side, MSU isn't going to give away 6 turnovers like the other MSU did, and the defense should be able to hold Martin in check.

Any FCS school beating a school like FSU is cool, awesome, impressive, etc.

With all that said, FSU has been awful this year.
