Congrats Troy. Best football player I've ever seen at MSU. One of the all time greats in BSC history. Most versatile player in BSC history. There's almost no chance we'll see another player like him at MSU in my lifetime. Only other player I can think of that ranks up there with Andersen is Cooper Kupp.

On the play when he tracked down the Idaho running back Paul Petrino said he 'knew Andersen was going to catch him, not only because of his ability, but of his desire.' He said that's what sets Andersen apart.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

While I still contend O'Connell should have won the award, I have no qualms with Anderson winning the award. He is certainly talented, and deserving of thre accolade.

It was going to be one of those two for sure.

I would have been fine with C0-DPOY's in this instance.

Both are studs.

I agree, both made their defense tick. Good day to be a Bobcat!

Troy Andersen:
2017 - Big Sky Freshman of the Year (running back/linebacker)
2018 - First team All-Big Sky quarterback
2019 - First team All-Big Sky linebacker
2021 - Defensive Player of the Year; First team All-Big Sky linebacker

Impressive to look at all stacked up together. That's just Big Sky honors.

No one will ever do that again.

And the 2019 recognition was for OLB while 2021 was MLB...just silly stuff.

I'm happy for O'Connell's success because he's a Kalispell kid, but I'd argue this was a better pick from an overall football perspective. If O'Connell would've won it would have been because his stats are so impressive, particularly in TFL/Sacks. But O'Connell's stats came in large part because he was able to be a free rusher on a team that blitzes constantly. As far as somebody that offenses have to account for on every part of the field, and somebody who has an impact on the most plays for his team, I think Troy Andersen is the clear winner.

Is Troy the best FCS football player to ever come out of Montana??? This question should get some of you knowledgeable people going.

I agree, this will never be seen again. In an age when elementary kids are specializing at a sport AND position, he is proof of why kids should play everything and get well rounded.

Pat Donovan (Helena High, Stanford, Dallas) is the best as of right now.

Taysom Hill of the Saints just signed a 4 year hybrid contract extension that will pay him between 40-95 million depending on the position he plays and 22 million is guaranteed. He plays QB, TE and on special teams he’s 6’2 220

The value that TROY would add to NFL team has to be similar if not MORE than Hill. It would great to hear NFL coaches debating on which position he should play. Looking forward to seeing him playing on one or both sides of the ball in the future!

Another way to look at it - who would you rather have on your team? Let's say you are building a team from scratch and you have to draft a LB - you're drafting Troy.

#15 should be retired across the entire big sky conference. Never going to see honors like that again.
