Someone else can do the analysis but here is what the Top 25 has for games this week. One Top 25 matchup from the MVFC again this week.

#1 Sam Houston @ Tarleton (4-3)
#2 NDSU vs Indiana State (4-4)
#3 Southern Illinois @ #16 UNI (4-3)
#4 Villanova vs William & Mary (5-2)
#5 James Madison vs Elon (4-3)
#6 MSU - bye
#7 EWU - bye
#8 SE Louisiana vs McNeese (3-4)
#9 UC Davis - bye
#10 South Dakota St. @ Youngstown (2-4)
#11 Montana vs Southern Utah (1-7)
#12 Kennesaw State vs Gardner Webb (3-4)
#13 ETSU - bye
#13 UT Martin vs Austin Peay (3-4)
#15 Sac St. @ N. Colorado (3-5)
#16 UNI vs #3 Southern Illinois (6-1)
#17 Missouri State vs North Dakota (3-4)
#18 VMI vs Samford (3-4)
#19 Princeton @ Cornell (1-5)
#20 Jackson State @ Miss Valley State (2-5)
#21 South Dakota - bye
#22 Incarnate Word vs Houston Baptist (0-7)
#23 Weber State @ Idaho State (1-6)
#24 Rhode Island vs Maine (3-4)
#25 Eastern Kentucky vs Lamar (1-5)
I think the analysis is this. The only matchup that is competitive this week AND has implications to the Cats is the UNI vs SIU. Last week I said the UNI does this it seems like ever year. They lose 3 or 4 games and are in playoff mode... and then make the playoffs. Obviously the Cats need to take care of business but a UNI upset clears a path for at least a top 4 seed. Go Panthers

I think if we win out and are undefeated in FCS we would move past JMU and are in a mishmash of NDSU, SHSU, Nova and us. The first 2 still could go 11-0 and Nova has an FBS loss. I think our resume is stronger than Nova at 10-1 and we get a 3 seed.

I know William and Mary is 5-2 but they had a very easy schedule. I think the Wildcats take it to Bill and Mary.

Its CFB so stranger things can happen and a top tier team could lose but seeding and strength of teams get sorted more Nov 6th i believe. Big week for FCS playoffs.

I predict UNI wins this weekend, and I wouldn't be surprised of there is another upset in that top group. Upsets happen every Saturday. I would absolutely love it if SHSU got beat at Tarleton :)

While I would love to see MSU on Game Day, doing so at Ewoo would be embarrassing for the Big Sky. The only two schools that should be hosting Game Day are MSU and um. Period.

:goodpost:

They probably look at the town, the stadium, the experience, the attendance, the matchup. They need to get viewers and the Montana schools are the only ones that can dial up all of those.

Emory Hunt still thinking highly of the Bobcats has them at #2.

He seems to be the only national writer to treat MSU as more than an afterthought. I'd like to hear his reasons for putting us at #2 versus all the other teams ranked higher than MSU in the other polls. I'm interested in knowing what he sees in us others are missing or overlooking.

Defense. We're 11th in the country in total defense. 2nd behind NDSU in scoring D (we're #1 in that category in conference play with them at 12.5 PPG). Of the teams ahead of us in the stats poll, none besides NDSU has come close to our PPG given up. We're giving up 10.4 PPG in 8 games, 9.4 in conference games. For example SIU is giving up 24.4 in all 7 games, 29 in conference games. Villanova 15.4 in all games, 16 in conference which includes a shutout last week. Not to mention our offense is 27th in the nation in total offense.

A few more tidbits. We're 4th in the nation for fewest penalties per game at 4. 32nd in 3rd down % D. 17th in TFLs. 20th in sacks. 13th in kick return D (16 ypr). 22nd in punt return D (3.91 ypr). Tied for 13th in turnovers created (15, tied with Eastern). Turnovers lost FIRST with 3. Turnover margin FIRST at +12, 2nd at + 1.5 per game.

Griz still overrated

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

I'm happy to see our guys moving up. I think the slow, steady, and gradual moves up might be better for our team rather than sudden and large moves up / down.

Nova dropping ten spots seems pretty drastic. Ranking weak Southland and Big South teams (ETSU and Kennesaw) is also befuddling.

ETSU is in the Southern conference, which is actually pretty decent. I do take issue with teams like SELA being ranked in the top 10 though considering the Southalnd is trash now that half the conference left.

Sam knows what's up in the FCS. Other than his ranking of UNI at #6 I think he did a fantastic job. Especially with teams like Kennesaw who have 1 loss but play in a bad conference. I am a little surprised William & Mary isn't higher though.
