Blake Glessner- killin it

Post by mslacatfan » Sun Oct 17, 2021 9:46 am

One of the many freshman on this team having a helluva season this year! Jason Cunningham holds majority of the kicking records at MSU.... With Glessner on board for the next 3 years, I think we will see most of these records fall.

He has been very clutch! especially against Weber, those FG's were the difference maker.

Glessner has been great as has fellow frosh punter Bryce Leighton and long snapper Tommy Sullivan. All contributing to the team's success.

Cunningham made 13 FGs his freshman year. Jeff Muri made 14 in 1976, which is the school record. So Glessner, who is 13 for 16, needs just one more to tie freshman record. Season record is 22 by Cunningham. He's averaging just under 2 per game, so he's on pace for 21. That would be second for a season.

Not to nitpick, but how can he drill the long field goals but barely put any kick offs in the end zone?

I’m thinking that’s by design. Coach said both kickers were doing very well with directional kicking. I think they want to put the ball where the other team has a difficult decision or handle. It came up aces against Weber, when their superb return guy (Shaheed) made an error in letting the ball touch him and go out at the three yard line. Great way to open a game. Of course Weebs drove 97 yards and scored their only touchdown, but that’s just a detail. 😁

He’s made 10 straight FGs. Record is 14.

You’re right. Missed a 52-yarder right after halftime. Thanks. 10 of 11 maybe? I think he’s 13-16 on the season.

I did not know that, thanks for the insight. 👍🏼👍🏼
