Players I have not seen yet

Post by gtapp » Sun Sep 19, 2021 10:37 am

There are a few players I have not seen on the field yet and it is surprising to me:

Lane Sumner
Demareus Hosey
Ryan Davis
Tua Areta
David Alston

Lane was hurt in Wyoming. Ryan Davis was credited with a TD against Drake. Tua Areta played much of the fourth quarter yesterday. David Alston has also played quite a bit in cleanup duty.

When did Demareus get hurt?

Tua played several series yesterday. Not sure if anyone else noticed, but he's huge.

I thought to myself that he looked really slow when he entered the game. Then I watched him bull rush his guy, he can really move.

Ryan Davis literally starts on offense as an inline TE. He plays about 60% of the snaps every game.

Sumner got hurt against Wyoming.

Hosey is rumored to be hurt but came out of spring ball as the #5 RB.

Tua got in there yesterday with the 3's and you can tell he is still learning to use his size properly.

Alston played a bunch yesterday as a reserved DE in both halfs.

Agree with Vim on all of this. Alston has played in every game this year.

You can’t miss big #55 out there. I watched Tua specifically on a few plays and his power is apparent. On one particular pass play he pushed the guard all the way back into the qb as the ball was being released. I realize he has a ways to go still, but he could be a force in the next couple years.

One thing I noticed when watching Tua. His arms hang down to his knees! Just what defensive coaches look for in linemen.

Gale Sayers. Bo Jackson. Cal Ripken. That’s it. I’ve seen everyone else.

Yes.
Sparingly though. Marcus needs to continue to add weight before he starts to become a regular contributor. He's kind of stuck in that middle ground of "not being big enough to handle interior work but not athletic enough to hold up on the outside". He's a hard worker though so I believe he'll get there. Marcus also dealt with an injury during spring ball and into the summer.

Areta is way too big. He's not going to be effective until he cuts way down.

I think I have been seeing tua on FG and extra points? They have him lined up right next to the snapper... good luck getting by him as a defender. Ha!

He ain’t no Vita Vea.

Hopefully at some point he’ll be able to play 15 or so snaps a game, but yeah, there isn’t a lot there. Doesn’t push the pocket, doesn’t move laterally. If they run right into his gap he should be okay.
