What if…
I spent the day in Missoula for work and getting ribbed about the Griz beating Washington and the Cats losing to Wyoming. I asked a few people what would they say if Washington ends up at the bottom of the Pac 12, unranked and no bowl game; and Wyoming ends up ranked or close to being ranked, finishing in the top of the Mtn West and a bowl appearance; who would have the upper hand? Of course, I got answers of that would never happen (which could very possibly happen this year) and the Cats would still suck. What’s everybody’s opinion on this?

Wyoming would beat Washington this year. The Huskies aren’t good this year. At all.
griz fans; keeping it classy and gracious in winning since ... well, never.

My response to all griz gloating is, we will see in November. So much can happen between now and then. Your scenario is a very real possibility. We just need to have one more point than they do and it all goes away for about a week and then they go back to brag and dream land and we start all over. They are such an obnoxious crowd.

Re: What if…
In 2019, MSU lost to unranked Texas Tech 45-10 and gave up over 600 yards. UM lost to #15 Oregon 35-3 a slightly better showing by score and significantly considering quality of opponent. TT finished 4-8 and Oregon went 12-2 and finished #5 in the nation. I would guess Oregon would be at least a 14+ point favorite if TT played them.
Based in part on those outcomes, MSU was ranked #9 and UM #3 in the nation going into Cat-Griz that same year, yet MSU thundered UM that year 48-14 without its best player.
In other words early season games against FBS foes, while very fun if you win or come close to winning, have little bearing on the fortunes of FCS teams later in the season.
UM is good and they could wipe out MSU this year or vice versa, but the games against Wyoming and Washington will have close to nothing to do with it.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I love when Griz fans start some smack talk. It opens the door to not so subtly remind them multiple times of the 48-14 beat down in Bozeman. Which leads to miracle in missoula, which leads to 4 straight wins, which leads to enrollment.chadtothebone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 10:15 pmI spent the day in Missoula for work and getting ribbed about the Griz beating Washington and the Cats losing to Wyoming. I welcome any and all smack talk.

Re: What if…
I mean based off how much they were chirping after the Weber State beatdown the week prior to Cat/Griz, MSU shouldn't have even shown up to play them in 2019. As Jeff Choate used to say, "settle it between the white lines."wbtfg wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 9:14 amI love when Griz fans start some smack talk. I will say this though, if both teams stay healthy it is setting up to be a very good game in Missoula this year. Both defenses play extremely fast and physical.

Oh, they're pretty good alright. I'm just glad it's a home game this year. The WBS will be rocking and MSU has won four of the last five in our cozy home.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 9:53 amI mean based off how much they were chirping after the Weber State beatdown the week prior to Cat/Griz, MSU shouldn't have even shown up to play them in 2019. Re: What if…
They haven’t beaten MSU in almost 6 years and as @iaafan said, Washington-Bobcat Stadium should be rocking in West Bozeman. Let them have their fun. I still see 2001 National Chamls sweatshirts in Missoula. They hang on to history while others move forward.
Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

My opinion on this is too many of you care what Griz fans think. I don’t need their validation!

Yes, and Griz fans care what cats think. Hence why it’s called a rivalry and makes it fun.Bobcat80 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 1:49 pmBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 12:59 pmMy opinion on this is too many of you care what Griz fans think. I don’t need their validation!

FYI....
DATE………..MSU……………..um
9/25………..@PSU…………….CP
10/2………….UNC……………@EWU
10/9…………..CP……………….Dixie
10/15&16…@WSU………....…SSU

10/30…………bye……………..SUU
11/6……….@EWU………….@UNC
11/13…………UI……………..@NAU
11/20………@um……………..MSU
few things to note........
A little bit off topic but......my biggest ? at this point is.....I'm assuming that since the CATS have proven they can throw the ball efficiently (MSU has the highest passing efficiency in the BSC) will teams now stop loading the box, AND, when they do can we run the ball for 300 yards if needed? Time will tell. GO CATS!

few things to note........
- we both play @EWU & CP at home
- um plays 9 consecutive weeks, starting next week
- um is on the road the 2 weeks prior to the brawl
- I think by Oct 16 the BSC will start to 'shake out'

What if...
Davis loses to Weber but wins out otherwise (10-1, FBS win),
Weber loses to Cats but wins out otherwise (9-2, JMU win),
MSU loses to EWU but wins out otherwise (9-2, Brawl win),
dUMb loses to Cats but wins out otherwise (10-1, P5 win, but another end of year humiliation)
...who get's the auto bid with a 4-way tie at 7-1?
...who gets a first round bye?
...does EWU get in as a 5th team at 8-3 (5-3) with an FBS and MV win?

Re: What if…
The tie breaker in this scenario is head to head vs teams involved in the tie. MSU would be 2-0 (dont play Davis), griz 0-1(they dont play Weber or Davis), Weber 1-1 (dont play UM). Cats win the tie breakers and the auto bid.CatBot wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 3:37 pmWhat if...

Re: What if…
And yes EWU would most certainly get in at 8-3. The would even have a legit chance at the 5th BSC seeded team if this scenario played out.CatBot wrote: ↑Fri Sep 17, 2021 3:37 pmWhat if...
