'Cats vs. San Diego Predictions

Post by BleedingBLue » Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:14 am

Another week, another home game! San Diego is playing 3 BSC teams in non-conference, and is going to be an ugly 0-3 going in to conference play. Normally a perennial Pioneer power, they have some stiff competition this year. I don't expect they will win the Pioneer, and wouldn't be surprised if they finish outside the top 3. Their normally stout D is not so stout this year, and they look to be offensively challenged. I expect a similar game to the Drake game.

Cats - 48
Torreros - 7

We should be able to throw and/or run all over them. Their defense is awful. They'll be down three or more scores in the second half and our relentless front four will have 6 sacks by days end. One last non-conf. game to get the kinks worked out before conference play.

59-10 Bobcats

San Diego's drop off has me wondering if the Covid year has had a far greater impact on non-scholarship schools. I get it that you still have the extra year of eligibility but if you have graduated and are paying your own way I think you are much more likely to move on. Even if you are on an academic scholarship it may run out and you still may end up paying. Interested to know if anyone has looked into this issue.

The defense might just get a shutout, so I'm going with that.

I see this as being a potential trap game. Is San Diego as bad as they have shown the last two weeks? Are we as good as shown Saturday? Will we be looking past San Diego to the upcoming conference opener with Portland State (which, by the way, the Vikings are proving to be a tough out as they have given both Hawaii & Washington State good games)?

We need to put this one away early. If we struggle and let San Diego play with us, it could be a long day. A solid top-ten FCS team wins this one easily. That's what we need to prove this weekend. I had a football coach once tell me, "If you're supposed to beat a team by 3 or 4 touchdowns, you better damn well beat them by 3 or 4 touchdowns."

USD won't score much if anything on the defense (even 2's and 3's): USD 7
MSU O keeps rolling, but runs a lot in the 2nd half to burn the clock: MSU 42

I like this scenario! Before I read this I thought 45-0 and we play a lot of guys. I will give a little and say 41-0, we will get two FG's. I think Rovig gets time with #1's Bauman sees some time and I think we may even see Tommy take some snaps. We will see a lot of young guys rotate in on the defense and special teams. I really like the balance that Coach Vigen and staff are showing, we have missed that in the past.

Cats 44 - 10

Elliot 113 yards rushing
McKay 256 yards passing in 3 quarters
Callahan fumble return for TD
Hauck nearly scores San Diego's 2nd TD with no time remaining but takes a knee at the 1-yard line. He was awarded 2 tackles on the play (tackler and tacklee).
