There's the game. You need to be in the stands. The only bsc team we don't play is Davis. All we have to do is win those three games on the road. Re: 2021 Sagarin Rankings
You're probably right, and that's OK. Zero downside to that halfway through the season. MSU will have 3 chances to prove where they belong, whether it's higher or lower. IF the Cats can win two of those tough road games (Weber/EWU/UM), they'll get the recognition they deserve...assuming they don't lose to somebody else. If the Bobcats were ranked in the top 5, it just gives opponents a little more motivation. Being outside the top 10 probably gives MSU players a little chip on their shoulder. I know Choate would've loved motivating his team with this ranking.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 10:32 amI don’t see it happening in the next two weeks either with games against UNC and Cal Poly.onceacat wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 11:52 pmMan,what does it take to jump Weber!?Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:23 pmAfter week 4, Cats are 121st overall and 13th in the FCS.

I don't think so, simply because of the teams above us playing very tough games, specifically against each other in some cases. For example, UND v NDSU, EWU v UM, SHSU v SFA... and there are several other tough match ups over the next couple games. I think if we win the next two we end up around 8 or 9 in the STATS poll.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 10:32 amI don’t see it happening in the next two weeks either with games against UNC and Cal Poly.onceacat wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 11:52 pmMan,what does it take to jump Weber!?Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Sun Sep 26, 2021 7:23 pmAfter week 4, Cats are 121st overall and 13th in the FCS.

Bottom line is I don’t see a big movement coming in the next two weeks. Weber will be a big statement game for the Cats to prove if they’re legit if they are indeed 5-1 going into that game.

Ya, got ya. I should have re read what you posted before I did. In my mind I was thinking people were saying we wouldn't move from where we're at now, which I think it 11th. Sounds like we agree if we win the next two that should put us in the top ten.Catsrgrood wrote: ↑Mon Sep 27, 2021 5:17 pmYea it’s possible, but I mean that’s kind of splitting hairs. Re: 2021 Sagarin Rankings
An unbeaten EWU team with an FBS win and a head to head win over the griz, is still ranked behind the griz??
Might be time for Sagarin to make some adjustments.

The Griz win over UW is a lot better than the win at UNLV. Griz crushed WIU, EWU barely squeaked by on the scoreboard. And the game in Cheney was 50-50. If UMs TE has better hands on the last play, Griz come out with a win.

And if EWUs receivers had better hands, they go up 14-0 in the first 7 minutes of the game.
I'm just saying head to head should Trump everything else. Just my opinion.

I’m surprised people still refer to Sagarin. I just thought everyone would’ve learned by now that it isn’t good at rating teams.
MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Fair enough. But they are basically tied in the computer algorithm…and, I’d wager that if they played again, the Griz would probably win. I’d call those two very evenly matched teams…which is reflected in the tie in the computer rankings.91catAlum wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 10:36 amAnd if EWUs receivers had better hands, they go up 14-0 in the first 7 minutes of the game.

Nobody is good at ranking teams. That’s why there are so many “upsets” in the polls.

Re: 2021 Sagarin Rankings
Sagarin ratings get better/more realistic later in the season with more games played. Over rated teams at the beginning of the season will skew up ratings of teams that beat them early in the season. I think it's plain to see a 2-3 Husky team us no where close to a top 20 team it was preseason. They are more likely a top 75 team. Still a good win for um, but not remarkable.

At the end of the 2019 season the Sagarin rankings were pretty dang close to how the season actually worked out.
No it’s not perfect, none are, but as the season goes on it gets more and more accurate and is as good as any out there.

Truth.
