I don't agree with the running narrative on the defense. Yes, we are in the market for drop down help in secondary and interior DL...just like every single effing year, ever. Welcome to FCS football. Let's hope we pull in some much needed help.
But we held out Benson, Andersen, Okada, Williams, O'Reilly, and (mostly) Thomas. That's a ton of proven firepower. Is it reasonable to say our D "isn't very good"? Nope. The D that takes the field at WY won't resemble this spring much at all, and we'll all be thankful so many young kids got so many reps.

So, if the quarterbacks don't do a great job this season is it because Choate didn't recruit well or is it because Vigen or Housewright didn't develop them properly? Or, if the quarterbacks do great this season is it because Choate recruited well or is it because Vigen and Housewright developed them up to be great quarterbacks in six months?

Considering the track record of QB development under Choate, I'd have to say the latter is more likely.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:25 amSo, if the quarterbacks don't do a great job this season is it because Choate didn't recruit well or is it because Vigen or Housewright didn't develop them properly? Yup, I also remember a lot of concern about the 2019 defense not being better than then 2018 defense and that didn't turn out to be true. I do think the Cats need to get one or two additional interior lineman and maybe a linebacker but the rest of the defense looks pretty good. The Cats lost a safety (Ulloa), a d-lineman (Clark) and a linebacker (From Colorado) transfers that never played, right? Do they need to replace all those guys? I don't know.CatBot wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 9:54 amI don't agree with the running narrative on the defense. Re: Way Too Early Fall 2021 Predictions
I personally think coaches get too much credit if a player develops into a star and too much blame if a player doesn't develop properly. The players themselves certainly have something to say about how the end product works out. I don't think Vigen is some sort of a quarterback whisperer or anything. Vigen hit the jackpot with a couple of guys and I hope he can keep that luck going here. Time will tell and my fingers are crossed.CelticCat wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:27 amConsidering the track record of QB development under Choate, I'd have to say the latter is more likely.AFCAT wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 10:25 amSo, if the quarterbacks don't do a great job this season is it because Choate didn't recruit well or is it because Vigen or Housewright didn't develop them properly?
