If he's not practicing because he's injured, it probably stems from when he was trying to kick field goals after practice and one Lucy that's breaking records on the T&F team pulled the ball as a prank on April 1 and he, well, you know the rest. Oh good grief!bobcat99 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 8:56 pmSorry! Thought I had notifications set up for his name. I’ve been let down.
Seriously though, haven’t seen any practices so I have no clue. I just like the kid. Seems good to me.

Bohannon, Bailey, or Davis. Can't get a good look at the second number.

I just hope that whoever Vigen goes with, we stick with that decision and let it play out, let him develop over the season, not yank him if he has a bad game or even two.

I want him to pick the best option also, but I love it when you play multiple offensive packages with different players. Make the defense scheme work extra for all the different offensive looks. So start one QB, let him play a few series, then switch offensive set.

Re: 2021 spring ball
I hope Vigen has a better feel for the QB position that Choate did. I agree, I hope he picks the right one the first time to start, and sees success from that. Because if you put McKay in there, and things go off the rails, are you seriously going to ask Rovig to go back in? For the third year in the row, don't get chosen as the opening day starter, only to be pulled off the bench and told, "Oops, made a mistake. Guess it is you." Not saying Rovig is the answer, but if that were the case, would take a huge team commitment to stick around and continue to always be the coach's second choice.Montanabob wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:26 pmI want him to pick the best option also, but I love it when you play multiple offensive packages with different players. That’s why we see so many successful teams do just that, right?Montanabob wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 1:26 pmI want him to pick the best option also, but I love it when you play multiple offensive packages with different players. Re: 2021 spring ball
Maybe I missed it, are there are reports from the scrimmage outside of the one MSU put out? Dying to hear about it.

Re: 2021 spring ball
I'm not worried about the quarterback position. He has shown that he knows how to develop quarterbacks so whoever he chooses is going to be a big improvement from what we've seen over the last few years. To me the big question mark is how our defense does underneath his leadership. On offense we are going to see big improvement this year. The test of whether or not he will be able to take us to the next level will be how well he does on the defensive side.

Couldn't agree more. Whoever he and the OC decide is the best fit long term and for the season I hope they make the decision in fall camp and roll with it.
I love the Bobcats and the Miami Hurricanes an unhealthy level

McKay is the early front runner in the QB room.

If Rovig is our starter I feel good about our chances of having another memorable season. However, if McKay is a gamer we could really be in business. Can’t wait to see!imacat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 18, 2021 11:04 amMcKay is the early front runner in the QB room.

Re: 2021 spring ball
Biggest concern for me is switch to 4-3...and ability to recruit the DL position to man it effectively. There is a reason why we went 3-4 to remain multiple and ability to find more players to recruit to it.
Really worried about 1st time DC. Not that he won’t develop into a good DC but learning process could be painful... ie last couple of years under Ash come to mind.

I like that the QBs are wearing gold, instead of red, jerseys. Or did they do that last year, too?
The offense should be very good, but the defense has me wondering a little bit. Banks is the wild card.

The 3-4 is harder to recruit for, imo.bpcats20 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 8:21 amBiggest concern for me is switch to 4-3...and ability to recruit the DL position to man it effectively. There is a reason why we went 3-4 to remain multiple and ability to find more players to recruit to it.

You have to find a big NT. Difficult for top programs, more difficult at the FCS level. You have to find large base ends, 3T, 5T, 4i, and the like. Difficult. Then you have to find edges. Pass rushers who are also capable of dropping into coverage when needed. Perhaps a little easier than finding the lineman, but not easy.
Lineman are always going to be difficult to find at this level, but I think there’s a lot more 6’1-6’3 270-290 lb players that are capable of playing than there are 310+ guys. Most of them that can actually move, are too good to play here.
The last couple of Ash years at MSU had an experienced DC calling plays. Not sure the relevance?

I may have missed this over the past couple months but has Vigen or Banks explained why they changed to 4-3?

Did they change? Or, is that the systems they have both come from. Curious on thoughts on if it's easier for a coach too change to match roster or slowly change roster to fit scheme.

Assuming you're responding to my previous post, I'm asking if they explained why they changed the team's base defense. I assume it's what Banks came from. I just don't remember if anyone has outright asked them why they changed, with your last sentence as a follow up.

Because you don’t hire a coach to run a scheme they don’t want to run/aren’t as familiar with.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Apr 19, 2021 6:08 pmAssuming you're responding to my previous post, I'm asking if they explained why they changed the team's base defense.
