I think the Ducks are going to elevate Joe Salave'a from co-DC to real DC. That’s the word.CatBot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:37 pmI'm wondering if Choate is wondering about a new DC position at Oregon that recently opened up...PapaG wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 3:34 pmAvalos will be the primary DC. Choate would go from running his own program to Avalos calling defensive plays and Choate helping with the game plan.Montanabob wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:44 pmWe haven't dodged a bullet yet. there is still a defensive coordinator position out there at Boise StateBobcatsinmso wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 3:31 pmI think we may have dodged a bullet. Even if we gave him a million, it would still be less than an entry level BCS job. This isn’t about money.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 6:33 pmFor what? Not getting hired somewhere else? He's a great coach but we don't have to throw money at him every time someone else notices.

As someone else pointed out, this was already financially as step backward. It’s not about the money. When the right opportunity comes, he’s gonna leave, but it won’t be for the raise.Bozeman42 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 7:12 pmEven if we gave him a million, it would still be less than an entry level BCS job. I believe onceacat is referring to his taking the opportunity to be the head coach of MSU as the financial step backwards from UW. He is meaning that Choate will leave if and when the right opportunity arises. The Boise State job was one of those opportunities, he just didn't get it. He just isn't going to leave for the money at say UNLV...

If you have lived and worked in the same town/city for 23 years you probably have lots of family and friends there. His wife, assuming he has one has friends and family too, she could also have a great job she loves. The grass is not always greener even for more fame and fortune. Being a coach in the same spot for 23 years, everyone there knows you. Pull a Stitt and move to a program with hostile fans where they will fire you for one loss, that has to be fun.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sat Jan 09, 2021 12:18 amAs Gtapp mentioned, the SDSU coach has been coach for 23 years. Given their success, I am sure he had many opportunities to explore. Someone might be not only be content being the head coach at MSU, but might also consider MSU their dream job. I could easily see Kane Ioane retiring as the MSU head coach 20 years from now. Making $300,000+ and living in Montana where you are already a living legend and having family nearby sounds like a pretty good gig.Cledus wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:39 pmI’d really love for our fans to stop thinking Bozeman is the greatest place in the world and any top talent not willing to take a huge pay cut to come here must be mentally defective or greedy. The USA is a large country and there are lots of very nice places. Just because we like it here doesn’t mean it’s anything special to someone else.bobcat99 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 8:24 pmOf course he’s looking to move up! No coach thinks of MSU as a final destination.cat95inmissoula wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 7:13 pmWe dodged a bullet today, but the cats outa the bag. He's looking to move up - so next year we'll be having the same discussion.
Biggest concern I have is what this does to the player morale. Word is the last few days that the players were real scared. Afraid our leader may lose some cred in the locker room.
Players, and recruits, know that there’s a possibility Choate is moving on soon. That’s part of being a successful lower level program.

Robin Selvig. How many thousand chances did he have? He was outspoken about having everything that was important to him and more. Hoping Coach Bin learned from him! And maybe Coach Sprinkle will learn from her. Just because someone is content in their circumstance doesn’t mean they are complacent.

I am right there with you! I thought I would be ecstatic (and I am) but I feel for Choate and his family. Its always hard when you don't land a job you want. But everything happens for a reason. Onto Spring Ball! Go Cats.

Re: Choate to interview for Boise State job
Ya, I'm guessing Choate might have been disappointed for five minutes... and then quickly realized things happen for a reason and was instantly back to focusing on unfinished business. There is no doubt in my mind he will be the head Coach at an FBS school and will succeed. Personally I think his best opportunity will be a program that needs rebuilding, culture shift, etc.
Great time to be a BOBCAT!
