Arguing with a dude like PapaG is pointless. He will argue on the board, tell you to PM him as to why you think he is being stupid, unreasonable, an a**hole or what have you, then argue with you in the PMs. And nobody will ever convince him differently because he is the type of dude that will tell people they are wrong because he hasn't seen any proof.
Welcome to almost three years ago. Geez, I sure made an impression on you. I forgot we ever PM’d. I’m glad I could touch your heart!
You do have a well earned reputation.
Digressing, re-reading it, BleedingBlue and I had a very short and positive PM conversation. Odd flex by him here but whatever. Have we cured cancer, I mean, Covid yet in this thread?
It was a positive conversation you're right. But then you've acted like a child over and over again after that, so I figured I'd let others know it's pointless to try to have a rational conversation with you because it gets them nowhere.

Nope, no politics involved at all in prolonging shutdowns. Also, how stupid does a person have to believe that ~20% of all global deaths from Covid are in the USA? CNN viewers...

Yep, stop the tests. Can’t have that mortality rate collapse even more.

“This is not coming as a shock or surprise to epidemiologists,” Carl Bergstrom, an infectious diseases expert at the University of Washington in Seattle, said in an email. “All along, we have expected that only about 10% of the cases will be reported.”
That would certainly make a big difference.

Well based on the numbers available, that is true.

Now of course, to believe that, you also have to believe China and Russia's numbers, and there shouldn't be anybody who believes that. I'm also highly skeptical of India's numbers. There's absolutely no way that they are a whole percent lower than the US in terms of death rate.

Epidemiologists have been on record for months now suggesting this is the case. It's been discussed a lot. But for some reason it get's disregarded regularly. The really scary stats and models are always 100% legit. But writings such as this that paint a way different picture of the virus will be dismissed per usual.

But yes, if this was in any way of possibly having a sliver of truth, it would be a game-changer in my mind. In the states it would basically equate to almost 40 million infected and not 3.9 million. This is a .3627% death rate if you're keeping track at home.

But as I said, it's not likely these epidemiologist are correct on this. Nor the ones who've suggested the virus has possibly been in the states longer than we know. So we're back to square one. :(

Screwing with numbers to advance a narrative. Criminal of The News to do this as millions are out of work. Grim.

https://issuesinsights.com/2020/07/22/t ... -fed-myth/

According to PBS in Arizona, the state “on Saturday (July 18) set a record for coronavirus-related deaths reported in one day, with 147, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services.”

The last story is particularly illuminating because the website the PBS article links to includes a chart of daily deaths in the state. It lists only six deaths on July 19. What’s more, the chart shows that there have only been two days where deaths exceeded 65.

So where did that scary 147 number come from? The same place all the other “surging” numbers come from. Each day Arizona and other states file reports on how many people died from COVID-19. It’s not a measure of how many died that day. In most cases, the people died days or even weeks earlier.

In fact, in Arizona’s case, 106 of the reported deaths on Saturday resulted from a periodic review of death certificates.

“The grim milestones come quickly in the Sunshine State,” CNN reported. “The Florida Department of Health reported 156 new coronavirus-related deaths on Thursday, the most yet in a 24-hour period.”

Yet Florida’s health department reports only 68 deaths that day. The most deaths occurring in a single day in the state is 101. (See chart below.)

Nowhere in the CNN story is the difference explained to readers.

On Tuesday, Florida reported 132 deaths. But of those, 41 occurred more than a week ago.

In Texas, a Dallas Morning News headline shouted that “As Texas sees a record 174 coronavirus deaths in a day, Gov. Greg Abbott pleads for use of masks.”

None of those caveats made it into the PBS story.

It is crazy. I expect China, India, Russia all have governments that purposely want to see the numbers reported be low. This shows that their governments have this pandemic controlled. While in the US, the exact opposite seems to apply.

She's not wrong but man it drives me nuts that they constantly recognize that Trump's rallies helped spread the virus with no mention of the protests...many of which are still happening. I'm tired of the political stances!

As someone with a lot of Pharma experience, there is no money in generics. There is in vaccines and on-patent meds.

Pharma lobbyists and their bought-for politicians killed how many people by not offering an inexpensive and effective treatment?

It's my understanding HCQ is available over the counter in France (probably many other countries) and in many malaria countries they just give it to you even if you don't ask for it.

We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. In many cases, the desire for widespread masking is a reflexive reaction to anxiety over the pandemic.
It is also clear that masks serve symbolic roles. Masks are not only tools, they are also talismans that may help increase health care workers’ perceived sense of safety, well-being, and trust in their hospitals. Although such reactions may not be strictly logical, we are all subject to fear and anxiety, especially during times of crisis. One might argue that fear and anxiety are better countered with data and education than with a marginally beneficial mask, particularly in light of the worldwide mask shortage, but it is difficult to get clinicians to hear this message in the heat of the current crisis.

It is widely known that wearing a mask does little to protect you the wearer, you wear them to reduce the spread by reducing the amount of droplets you expel into the air.

People. Let’s get real. One kid on a team tests positive on Friday before the game....Saturday is canceled. Ain’t happening this year folks. So talk all you want about numbers/how deadly etc.... doesn’t matter. No school will risk the liability. End of story

Excellent development. However, I have seen a number of posters blame testing shortages on Trump. If Bullock is making this agreement, is the state actually responsible for arranging testing? Doesn’t that mean that we have been short on testing capabilities due to inaction by local politicians and not Trump?
