Can still play 4 games and redshirt. Time to get creative!

Reversal for Cat/Griz. Doesn't play all season, and Choate rolls him out for Cat/Griz to run the wildcat the entire game as Bobby spent the whole time figuring out how to stop our punting game.

As much as I want him to, I don’t see him playing this year at all.

I don't think he'll play any games. This is entirely to get him healthy.

I believe that he had a procedure that was delayed due to the COVID situation, and the timeline probably means that the earliest he could be ready to play is December. I would be surprised if he plays at all.

His surgery was delayed for other reasons earlier this year.

Hopefully Colter can get the story behind this. Ideally he'd be able to play some games in Nov/Dec but ultimately this should give him time to get healthy and then get in a full season next year and the tape to go along with it for NFL scouts. The 2020 season and 2021 NFL draft could be a mess so this might work out for the best.

I think that is the nail in the coffin for the wildcat package, because who else on the roster can do it?

And if you are going to redshirt, 2020 is as good as any to do it since there are so many questions heading into it still.

So, does that mean he won't be playing Qb this season? :) I know, it's tacky but I think he's doing the absolute, right thing. Get well Troy! =D^ =D^ =D^

If Thomas Marcus ends up coming to MSU, then I believe he will take over the Travis Johnson role in the wildcat. In certain situations, they could still run the wildcat with Ifanse, just like they did in Cat-griz.

I remember Isaiah Ifanse having some success with it last Nov. 23rd............
and also throwing a tebow-style TD toss in the Austin Pee game.

Matt McKay is a dual threat qb

Overall, this is a very smart move for everyone involved.

This was my idea when Troy didn't suit up for the Cat griz game -- red shirt him for 2020 but let him come back for Cat griz. I was only joking at the time and had no idea 2020 would unfold the way it has.

Quick somebody go find Colter and have him get a quote from Coach Choate that Troy will be playing both offense and defense for the cat griz game and is looking forward to a beat down. Maybe add that he will be on special teams too \:D/

True, but he isn't just a package player like Troy and Travis are/were. Sure there will be some +1 stuff as Choate calls it but if the same QB stays in every play it won't look the same. Unless they plan on using McKay like that with Rovig still handling the majority of the snaps, but I don't think that is how it will play out.

... And having a true dual threat QB behind center every snap makes it extremely tough on defenses, and can make an offense truly exceptional. This has been proven many times over at every level (even in the NFL). If MacKay can be even 75% as effective at running/scrambling/passing as DMac or Prukop was, the offensive efficiency should leap to heights heretofore unseen under Choate. And provided the defense maintains their level of play this season (or even if they see a slight dropoff), there is no reason MSU shouldn't be in the discussion as a legitimate NC contender.

Here's the full video from today. Like Choate said, he does not want Troy Andersen to be the headline given what is going on in the world today. He wants to help ease tensions from coast to coast with football as a vehicle to do so.
