Kind of late in the game for players entering the portal. I'm guessing most teams rosters are pretty well solidified by now, but some of them may get picked up.

Sounds like some of the athletes are not what MSU looks for academically.

Looks like our loss to them in Nacogdoches with Bleskin as QB after Denarius got hurt doesn't count anymore! Could've used that for the playoff picture that year.... haha just kidding. Taking away wins from a program is such a weird punishment...

I don't have the link detailing all (and there are many) infractions they basically thumbed their noses at, but their "student-athletes" did not meet the standards established by the NCAA and get through the NCAA Clearinghouse so they falsified the "student-athletes" transcripts be it taking the required high school core classes, GPA or ACT/SAT scores. Then upon being admitted to the school, they couldn't maintain their grades in underwater basket weaving, creative dance such as twerking, or they colored outside the lines in their coloring books. So, they don't get to use their reform school escapees for a year in any athletic competitions, and their "student-athletes" will get to transfer to another pillar of academic achievement (if they meet the NCAA academic requirements) and the "school" will lose a substantial number of recruiting tools and the ability to offer kids scholarships.

Just like a lot of times, the current AD and staff are cleaning up a mess created by previous administrators.
It's ugly. More information to come.
"Today, the NCAA publicly released Academic Progress Report (APR) scores for all Division I athletic programs, including Stephen F. Austin. These four-year cohort APR scores began with the 2015-2016 academic year. As noted in its release, three SFA sports programs (men's basketball, football and baseball) failed to meet the minimum four-year cohort APR score of 930 needed to avoid penalties. As a result, these programs must serve the Level I APR penalties, which include a reduction in countable practice hours and a one-year postseason ban. The University has been approved to delay the men's basketball postseason ban until the 2021-22 season, while football and baseball will serve their bans during the 2020-21 academic year.
Beginning in 2013, an athletics department administrative error in the academic certification process resulted in the miscalculation of SFA's reported APR scores. Once the administrative error was identified and corrected, the APR scores of these three programs fell below the 930 threshold. Procedures are now in place to prevent a re-occurrence of the error.
The athletics department has been focused on academic progress and is proud of its current student athletes who collectively earned a 3.21 GPA for the spring semester.

Translation: they cheated and they aren't a big enough deal to get away with it. But the worse the cheating sounds, the worse the NCAA looks, so they'll hamstring the program instead of nuking it, and make the whole thing sound like a big misunderstanding.
