2020 High School Recruiting Class Rankings

Post by VimSince03 » Thu Apr 23, 2020 10:57 am

My Pointless Ranking of MSU's 2020 High School Recruiting Class

*I got bored so here is one sentence and a favorite play on each prospect. The list excludes MSU's transfers and specialists as I believe they are all good and were brought here to play significant roles. No ranking necessary!

1.) CHARLES BROWN, Arlington, Tex.
Plays at a different speed than everyone else.
Favorite play: 1:28 of his "Senior Season" tape - Effortlessly catches the ball in motion after getting the right depth on the bubble screen and then explodes through tackles for a touchdown.

2.) AIDAN PARKS, Chico (Pleasant Valley), Calif.
Other than Charles, no one moves like Aidan in this class and he plays with the requisite aggressiveness and violence to be an impact player on defense early.
Favorite play: 1:13 of his "SEASON HIGHLIGHTS SR YEAR" tape - Starts out at corner and ends up stoning the scrambling QB five yards behind the line of scrimmage.

3.) MINAYA OLIVO, Modesto, Calif. (Central Catholic)
His combination of agility, size, and speed will make him a player that will be tough to keep off the field early in his career.
Favorite play: At :53 in his "Senior Season Highlights" tape - Not many backs MSU recruits can make those cuts so effortlessly without losing any speed at a player of Minaya's size.

4.) BRODY GREBE, Roundup, Mont.
The most versatile player in this class with the highest ceiling AND highest floor.
Favorite play: At 3:57 in his "SR SZN Highlight" tape - Definitely not the splashiest of plays on his tape but a very important one as he takes on two blockers and still makes the play for no gain.

5.) DANNY ULUIAKEPA, Puyallup, Wash.
A prospect you can plug into the middle of the defense and build around due to his leadership, passion, and talent displayed on the football field.
Favorite play: At 1:23 in his "Senior Season Highlights" tape - Appears to be a normal play but it amplifies Danny's best trait...which is his "pop" at the line of scrimmage (the ball-carrier goes nowhere).

6.) JT REED, San Jose, Calif. (Valley Christian)
A bulldozer of an offensive lineman who is a perfect fit for what MSU does on offense.
Favorite play: At :48 in his "Archbishop Mitty" senior year tape - Moves the defensive tackle from point A to point B with the running back right on his tail...doesn't get much better than that.

7.) TOMMY MELLOTT, Butte (High)
A leader and athlete who relentlessly competes and never stops improving...which is exactly what you want in a QB recruit.
Favorite play: At 2:40 in his "Thomas Mellott Senior Year" tape - Evades the sack, rolls out to his right, and throws a rope for a touchdown where only his receiver could make a play on the ball.

8.) ELIJAH ELLIOTT, Portland, Ore. (Central Catholic)
Accurate to compare Elijah's game to Isaiah Ifanse as he's a smaller back who has no problem operating between the tackles.
Favorite play: At :30 in his "FULL SEASON HIGHLIGHTS" tape - Takes the handoff on a simple zone run and just completely dominates the opposing defense with perfect timing and agility on cutbacks on his way to a long touchdown run.

9.) CONNOR RYAN, Billings (West)
A Montana kid with elite athleticism, physicality, and speed, Connor has the talent to compete early in his career at safety or wide receiver.
Favorite play: At 9:07 in his "Senior Year Highlights" tape - Catches the ball on a 10-yard comeback route, spins out of the tackle, and his elite speed outruns every defender (with some blocking help) to the endzone for an 80 yard touchdown.

10.) McCADE O’REILLY, Bozeman
The third O'Reilly brother to play college football, McCade brings max effort, above average athleticism, and an ill-tempered mentality every time he touches the field on either side of the ball.
Favorite Play: At 3:28 in his "Junior Season" tape - Last play of the game with the Hawks holding on to a touchdown lead over Senior, McCade sells out from his MLB spot and sacks the QB to shut the door on the victory.

11.) MAX LENZY, Tigard (High), Ore.
Max is a smart, tough, instinctual corner who is at his best in zone coverage but his best trait is the ability to be extremely productive regardless of what position he plays (CB/WR/KR/PR).
Favorite play: At :33 in his "Senior Year Highlights" tape - The definition of "sticky" coverage as Max runs the route with the receiver and gets an easy pick then houses it.

12.) RUSH REIMER, Camas (High), Wash.
Rush has everything an offensive line coach would want in an OT prospect as he has prototypical length for the position mixed in with solid athleticism and the desire to finish plays.
Favorite play: At 1:02 in his "2019 State Champs Senior Season" tape - On this inside run, Rush knows he has to reach the defensive lineman shaded to his inside and he executes the block perfectly (starts off at a 45 degree angle, engages low, locks in his hips, and drives the defender back 10 yards) which leads to an easy touchdown (my only critique would be to work on keeping his shoulders square those first few steps on the 45).

13.) SEBASTIAN VALDEZ, San Diego, Calif. (Monte Vista)
Sebastian has the "Jeff Choate approved" combo of length and power to set a strong edge in the run game and develop as a pass rusher along the defensive line as either a Buck or Strong-Side DE.
Favorite play: At :30 in his "Senior Season" tape - From his stand-up OLB spot, Sebastian explodes off the line (but in control), defeats two blocks from inferior opponents while keeping his eyes locked on the ball carrier, and makes a play in the backfield.

14.) JAALEN RENING, Visalia (Cent. Valley Christian), Calif.
A versatile athlete who isn't an every down back but more of a weapon with home-run ability on offense who can line up all over the field and also provide value on special teams.
Favorite play: At :58 in his "Jaalen Rening Full Season HL's" tape - Catches a swing pass, makes a couple cuts, and shows his acceleration/agility to explode for a touchdown.

15.) MILES JACKSON, Portland, Ore. (Central Catholic)
Miles is a well-built corner with solid athleticism and instincts who is always looking for chances to make plays.
Favorite play: At 1:05 in his "Senior Year Season" tape - Miles shows off that opportunistic play-making ability by taking advantage of poor blocking/effort by the wide receiver and forcing a fumble when he really wasn't involved in the play until the end.

16.) GARRETT COON, Sheridan, Wyo.
A similar football player to current Bobcat RB Joe Olson, Garrett displays plenty of power & athleticism to move the chains as he thrives on contact.
Favorite play: At :37 of his "2nd Half Senior Season" tape - Puts his foot in the ground and gets north/south quickly, taking advantage of poor tackling angles on his way to a touchdown.

17.) DEVIN DAVIS, Vallejo, Calif. (American Canyon)
Devin is a high-ceiling prospect with elite height & length for an outside corner who has the ability to be a problem in man coverage and 50/50 balls for opposing wide receivers.
Favorite play: At 1:00 of his "Senior season highlights" tape - Jams the receiver at the line, disrupts the timing of the route, and nearly intercepts the pass at the end.

18.) PEYTON THORNTON, Las Vegas (Faith Lutheran), Nev.
Peyton is a versatile prospect who can line up at multiple positions on offense and shows exciting development potential as a "move" TE.
Favorite play: At 1:41 of his "Senior Season Highlights" tape - Lines up on the outside at WR, breaks the jam attempt at the line, catches a slant, and explodes for a huge gain while showing off some long speed before getting caught.

19.) TREY YATES, Colstrip
Much like his brother, Trey has some issues with length & overall athleticism but he makes up for it with a high motor, refined technique, competitive toughness, and a high IQ for playing interior defensive line (Trey completely understands how to play in the trenches).
Favorite play: At :58 of his "Senior Year" tape - Lines up over the right guard, fires out of his stance with his eyes up, feels the down block with a little shoulder dip for leverage, and finds the ball wrapping up the ball carrier.

20.) AIDAN GARRIGAN, Magnolia, Tex.
Aidan is a true outside receiver (size/length combo) who runs well, has some decent route-running chops, and has a college-ready ability to finish a crowded catch.
Favorite play: At :46 of his "Mid-Season Highlights" tape - Struggles to gain any separation but uses his above average ball skills and body control to come down with a 50/50 ball in a unique way.

21.) CONOR REITLER, Billings (Skyview)
An under-the-radar offensive lineman out of Montana, Conor is a burly prospect with a stout lower half, decent footwork/technique, and a propensity to maul/finish in the run game (it also helps he has winning reps against Kenneth Eiden IV on tape).
Favorite play: At :17 of his "Senior year 2019 the bomb" tape - Lines up at RT against Eiden of Bozeman, keeps his inside leverage with good footwork, Eiden tries to re-route inside, and Conor makes him pay with a takedown...a thing of beauty.

22.) AARON RICHARDS, Butte (Central)
Aaron is a big, strong Butte Central product with natural ability in the trenches that needs to be developed and refined in college if he wants to get on the field.
Favorite play: At 4:24 of his "Senior Highlights" tape - In my opinion, Aaron has much better defensive line tape than offensive line so I highlighted a play that shows his ability to read how a lineman is blocking him and use his athleticism/strength to make a play at the LOS.

23.) JAKE D’AGOSTINO, Bozeman
Jake is a prospect who doesn't have a clear position coming to MSU (initially slated for safety), no eye-popping stats, and average athletic traits, but what he does have is a desire to win, underrated play-making ability, a style of play that sparks his teammates to keep competing, and the ability to remain calm under pressure (he's clutch).
Favorite play: At 1:44 of his "senior year" tape - Takes the shotgun snap from the 30-yard line, feels the pressure, steps up to run, and ends up weaving his way for six (Jake evaded pressure with relative ease all season).

24.) SHAYDEN KING, Big Timber, Mont.
A tall, long-limbed prospect who was used primarily as a pull-guard in high school while also playing nose tackle, Shayden has a good frame to develop for a few years and see if you get a starting offensive tackle by Year 4 (could play left or right tackle).
Favorite play: At :39 of his "Senior year" tape - Gets out on the pull, makes quick work of a poor secondary player, and shows off his athleticism/length in the process.

25.) TOMMY CAMPBELL, Columbus, Mont.
Tommy is the wildcard of this recruiting class and he's the type of developmental prospect you want to take a chance on because of his natural athleticism, length, and speed as an edge defender on defense.
Favorite play: At :5 of his "Tommy Campbell Senior Highlights" tape - Goes up against a Badlands Bow selection (Jadon Lamb of Townsend) and finds a way to create a turnover because of his awareness, length, and speed.
