BDC’s Colton Pool article on MSU DL. Some interesting stuff.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Surely this is a misprint??

It makes it easier for the rest of the defense, when you can fill two of the DL spots with one guy. :D

NO, that is correct. I think they took a lot of that weigh off last year. We will have to see what he weighs when camp opens. I am impressed with him. He was pretty raw coming in and apparently he is really developing.

Whenever Areta's weight is listed, someone always says that. I think that's what he weighed when he got here and it may have come down some since then. You may recall Areta as he is the player that Sterk was videoed running back to during a conditioning run and finishing the run with him last summer. From the looks of some recent videos posted on Twitter, it looks like Areta is making considerable ground.

He's probably a more "slim 330" now. 8)

Last I heard he was down around a 100. So about 375. Maybe he’s come down more.

I've been watching the Cat griz, Albany, and Austin Peay games constantly. Amandre Williams and Daniel Hardy seemed to really settle in. Despite what we lost to graduation this year I think these two guys go on a reign of terror.

It might take some games, maybe half a season or so, but whoever fills the spots left by Marks and Sterk, I don't see our D-line productivity dropping by a significant amount.

For sure. I know I've said this before on here but I was absolutely positive we were going to take a step back on the DL heading into 2019 after the beasts we lost off the 2018 team. We got better. Not sure if we'll get BETTER in 2020, but we won't take a step back much at all, if any. Choate is a machine recruiting and developing talent across the board, probably more so on the DL. Not surprising.

Difference is Choate is building better depth than we have seen before. Increases the competition to stay in the game. Recruit better people each year and keep upgrading. That is the difference Choate is bringing. Defense stays good and offense playing not to lose.

No. My numbers are correct.
He does have pretty good feet for a big guy.

Coach talked about it a little bit in his recruitment. And his check in weights.

Is the Areta kid really 385lbs?

Somewhere in the recruiting summaries when Tshort did his presentation they talked about him. Thinking he was going to be in the high 300s but was actually quite a lot heavier. I don’t recall the exact weight but it was quite a lot heavier than what he was listed.

He has done a lot of work to get down to where he’s at now
