With Konkol graduating, who will wear number 41 next year? I don't remember what the rules/guidelines are for wearing the number. Is this number specifically for a Montana athlete, seniors only, offense or defense? Who are the top candidates?

My front runners for #41Going forward from this season a player hailing from Montana will wear jersey number 41, although that has been the case at Montana State for much of the program's history.
Andersen
Jobman
O'Reilly
I would say Chase Benson as well, but I can't remember if college has the same rules for jersey numbers on d-linemen.

Chase can wear it. I think college defensive lineman can wear any number they want if I'm not mistaken.coachouert wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:32 pmhttps://msubobcats.com/news/2019/7/21/f ... state.aspx

Yeah, Garrett Marino was #1. I remember that was part of the selling point to him coming here--Ash said he could have #1.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:35 pmChase can wear it. I stand by my post then with Andersen, Benson, Jobman and O'Reilly being my top candidates at the moment.

I know there aren't any restrictions for jersey numbers, but it would be funny to see #41 taking snaps. I'm all for it though.

Where did you get that there are no restrictions On numbers? There are, but if you are wearing a number not allowed for the position you check in for, you have to check in with the referee to announce your position.kennethnoisewater wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:58 pmI know there aren't any restrictions for jersey numbers, but it would be funny to see #41 taking snaps. I misspoke, there are restrictions, just not for that number. I think the only restriction at all in college football is that #'s 50-79 can't catch a pass without declaring eligible.Montanabob wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 1:15 pmWhere did you get that there are no restrictions On numbers? There's a reason he was first on my list and it isn't because of the alphabet.

There's only one candidate for the number. If he turns it down then we can have a conversation.

Re: #41
I've thought the same since the new tradition started last year. We've all known from the start that it's his if he wants it but I'd rather see him wear 15.
I've been wondering what it takes to get your number retired since there are only 4 retired numbers. I think he'd have to be 1st team All-American plus at least one other post-season national honor plus get drafted and we'd have to go to the championship game (and probably need to win). He'd also have to get to #1 on multiple school records. We've had some really good players in the last 20 years that won't get their number retired so Troy would have to do a lot to get that honor.

I tend to agree. I love Troy. Possibly moved into my favorite Cat of all time. But I feel like he'd need to do a lot this season to be considered for a retired number. That's a HUGE honor.Go Scats Go wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 3:02 pmHis number Retired.... Give it some time before you throw that word around
For the record, I hope he does; and I hope it is!

It isn’t a lock, but I’d say it’s highly likely that Andersen’s number will be retired and that number will be 15 whether he wears it or not. I’d put it at 90% likely right now.
I agree that he belongs in #15. Whenever I see that number on another player of any sport, a license plate or whatever it’s like “Troy Andersen.” Kinda like 23 and Jordan.

MSU - 15 team National Champions (most recent 2021); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I want to be careful how I word this as not to come across as being a dick. But aside from being an awesome Bobcat, and so fun to watch, what has TA done to warrant having the 5th number in the history of our program retired?TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 9:13 pmIt isn’t a lock, but I’d say it’s highly likely that Andersen’s number will be retired and that number will be 15 whether he wears it or not. It just seems like a pretty big stretch to me at this point.

If #14 hasn't been retired, I'm not sure why anyone would assume that #15 will be.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 10:09 pmI want to be careful how I word this as not to come across as being a dick.
