Jan Stenerud - one of NFL 100 best all-time players
Suspect many have already seen this nice recognition of Jan. Selection as one of the top 100 NFL players of all time is quite an honor!!!

Shannon Butler seems like an obvious choice for 2021 and is a glaring miss by the committee this year.

Shannon Butler... are you talking about Shannon Butler the long distance runner?
This award is for the 100 Best all time in the National Football League... to be honored at half time of the Super Bowl on Sunday.

That is very cool. I've always wondered about something though...Stenerud is wearing number 12 in that photo, and I believe I've seen other photos of him wearing number 15 during his MSU career (not sure about that though), but 78 is the number that's retired in his honor. Does anyone know the story behind that?BobcatDel wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2020 10:36 pmSuspect many have already seen this nice recognition of Jan. Yeah, I asked that question years ago. 78 is the number he wore his final year.John K wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2020 10:38 amThat is very cool. What a huge honor. It appears it has players at every position. I doubt he’d make a top 100 list regardless of position.

Maybe not, but the fact that Stenerud was one of only two kickers selected for the top 100 list, in some ways makes it even more of an honor. To be considered one of the top two kickers in NFL history is pretty remarkable, especially since in general kickers are so much more accurate now than they were in his era.

He’s one of only two pure kickers in the nfl hof, so not a big surprise he’s on it since they’re filling every position. It’s a 100th year anniversary thing, so they didn’t want to fill it with players from just the last 30 years. Huge honor!John K wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2020 8:42 amMaybe not, but the fact that Stenerud was one of only two kickers selected for the top 100 list, in some ways makes it even more of an honor. Adam Vinatieri will be the third kicker 5 years after whenever he decides to retire from the NFL.
