I've never seen or been able to figure out for sure from the concepts - are the block buildings under the scoreboard going away as part of the construction, or staying until later phases? I was thinking they were coming down from what I could see, but wasn't certain.

Yup, Leon has talked about that a couple of times. The block houses stay up until construction is completed.

I looked at the plans on the alumni website. Buildings are removed. There are large elevated concrete pads in there place.
