The problem with arguments about college quarterbacks using high school stats is that you're using high school stats.

You might as well be basing the argument on blood types.
Can be futile. Different levels of competition, different climates, different offensive systems, and different athletes.
Exactly. That's why the tape is critical.
Watching tape, and knowing what to look for is the key. I just wish that I had a better eye for positions other than Oline.
Conversely, a player can look great on film, but not produce in games. Remember Bruggman? You can’t just look at one thing when rating a player. Work ethic, productivity, game tape, attitude, commitment, perseverance, character...
Yup. Everything goes into the equation of the overall evaluation.

I don’t know a lot about this particular quarterback school. Still pretty cool that Casey is working hard over break to better himself.

Steve Fairfield played QB at Colorado State and was HC there. He also coached in NFL. It’s relatively new and is generally geared towards younger players, but that might be good for Bauman.

I still think Bauman has tremendous upside. His field vision was lacking last year. He’s got good mobility and is a strong runner. Could surprise everyone next year.

I think the #1 thing that Bauman needs to work on is his footwork. He was constantly throwing off balance and it really hurt his accuracy.

Yes. Footwork and field vision go hand-in-hand. This training could really help a player of Bauman’s type.

Bauman was and will continue to be pretty raw. That's why I don't think he will transfer, because he just isn't ready to start anywhere else right now. Maybe after this year if he doesn't get any playing time, but I think he will compete for the starting job in fall camp and honestly I wouldn't be surprised no matter who wins the job.

I think that if Bauman had the time to develop and play this past season, he would have progressed nicely. I agree that Rovig did an admirable job and also progressed a tremendous amount. The game started to ‘slow down’ for Rovig and at some point it would have for Bauman as well.

I’m think it’s a positive sign for MSU that Bauman is seeking MORE help to get him into a better situation.

However the QB competition turns out, I am confident that whoever starts game 1, will be better than the QB that played any season opener under Choate, so far.

I am anxious to see how the QBs develop over the offseason. If they do not improve significantly, I think it is time to tweak the coaching staff’s responsibilities. One option would be to move McGhee back to QB Coach.

The running back play was outstanding last season. How much of that was McGhee, how much was the O Line and how much was raw talent is hard to decipher.

I think TAs running changed dramatically from first year to this year. He was almost specifically a straight line runner his freshmen year. His ability to plant his foot and go ability is night and day better now. I have to believe DMac had a huge role in that.

I'm happy with however the QB situation plays out as long as TA does not end up under center next year! As happy as I was for the results he brought us when he played there, that is not his position...period!!! :coffee:

I don’t think he ever has at MSU, so you should come out of this a happy person.

Ya, that ship has sailed. TA will never, ever be a quarterback, period.

Oh, he’ll play quarterback. Not much and never under center, which I don’t recall ever having happened.

Technically he did a couple of kneels downs under center at the end of Cat/Griz 18......(and I think at least one of those got muffed, which we fell on....Thank God). But those don't really count.

Has anyone heard how Matt McKay is coming along ? A friend told me he throws a nice ball. It will be good competition for all to have his talent in the room. All this self isolation has me thinking football, like many of you I'm sure.

Missing spring practice isn’t going to help any of the QBs. Perhaps the NCAA will allow practices with coaches this summer since many schools are closed.

It will be interesting to see if/when summer workouts are allowed.

Are practices cancelled as well? I thought it was just the public events like the scrimmage. So the entirety of Spring Ball is cancelled?
