Early Signing Day - Wednesday, Dec 18

This should be interesting. Obviously this is a new thing, but MSU has never dealt with this during a week of game prep like they would potentially have to do next week should they beat AP. I wonder what that interruption looks like. Fortunately the only options for game locations are Fargo or Bozeman, so it's not an awful travel schedule. All teams will have to deal with the inconvenience so at least it's a level playing field, but you almost lose a day of prep. Hopefully next week's game wouldn't be on a Friday again.

The cool thing is they can do official visits this weekend that can literally kickoff with a Friday night football game. They did officials last weekend too but this weekend they'll have Saturday off.

The NCAA came out and said that the Semifinals will both be played on the same day Saturday Dec 21 no matter what. If we are able to get by AP, we will have another day for prep for potentially the best team ever. But yeah it will be another hurdle. This week is Finals Week/Graduation. Next week, signing day.

With 18 commitments, they should be easy. With a Max of 10 more, they could have issues. But a win Friday should make recruitment easier.

Do you know the time slots for both games?

Gonna be an extremely busy week for the coaching staff. Now that the Cats are in the semifinals, the staff will certainly need to spend their time wisely. Between practice, film study, game planning, signing day on the 18th and everything that goes along with that and preparing to travel to South Manitoba, it’s gonna be a busy week. However, Wednesday is going to be yet another fun day for us fans as we’ll finally get to see the known and unknown names come through after they have signed NLIs and become Bobcats. Cheers to another great week to be a Bobcat.

One would hope that being able to sell playoff football to recruits outweighs any potential disadvantage from not being able to devote as much attention as the teams that are done.

Probably depends on what matters most to a kid. If it's developing a personal connection to/relationship with future teammates and coaches, then it could hurt. If it's having his ego stroked, then it'll definitely hurt.

If it's early playing time, it might hurt, depending on his position. The Cats rushed for a gazillion yards, but they only graduate one of their top 5 RBs and one of their top 7 O-linemen. Coaches don't usually go to the semifinals and then go into fall camp looking for ways to replace their returning players with freshmen.

If it's winning football, then yeah, I imagine it'll help.

If NDSU is any indication, the best players will choose to play for a winning football program hands down.

This as well as Msu has proven under this coaching staff best people play. Freshman or senior doesn’t matter.
If a kid is thinking about coming here and afraid of the competition for a position he probably doesn’t belong here.

What are the chances Choate still has a good relationship with Messingham and can ask him how NDSU handles recruiting/signing day during the playoffs? I'm not sure who else he could ask.

Choate mentioned in an interview after Cat/griz that he had reached out to Messingham to pick his brain about how NDSU utilized the bye week for week 1 of the playoffs. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s reached out about this too.

I’m curious about the recruits we haven’t heard about yet.

How often are we fighting for a recruit right up to signing day at the FCS level? Does that happen very often or is everyone essentially locked up in advance?

I'd imagine they just sign at the next signing day. With that said, sometimes you don't know til the forms come in.

Maybe if Choate reaches out to Messingham for answers, he should also ask him what his game plan on offense will be.

Messingham is at K-State now.
